The 2023 AAFCA (African American Film Critics) Awards took place on Wednesday (March 1) in Beverly Hills, California, where ‘The Woman King’ took home the Best Picture and Best Director Awards.
Jeremy Pope, Danielle Deadwyler, Brian Tyree Henry and Angela Bassett also took the top acting honours.
Danielle Deadwyler is having a moment with black Versace dresses at the moment, with this corset-top midi dress from the Fall 2022 collection looking as impressive as the first.
The ‘Till’ actress has – for me – had the most impressive awards season which has been full of colour, but I swoon just as much for her LBDs.
White has been a consistent colour for Angela Bassett during award season as this suit accented with a STYLAND Fall 2023 white faux-fur feather cape follows her white suits for the BAFTA Tea Party, and NAACP Image Awards.
I can’t say I like the dark lipstick here with the ensemble, but I did enjoy the styling which included a RODO white leather Venere clutch.
Viola Davis has also had an impressive awards season, but I struggled to get on board with this printed dress as I don’t think it does anything for her.
Meagan Good’s Staud Delphine dress might be deemed as tacky by some, but it didn’t fall into that category for me as there’s nothing wrong with showing a bit of cleavage.
