Dua Lipa arrived at the 2022 Grammys in Versace—an ode to Donatella Versace that consisted of a strappy, leather-and-lace partially sheer dress similar to Versace’s iconic 90s-era bondage dress. Her look was complemented by layers of thick gold necklaces, forming a weighty collar around her neck.
But when Dua stepped onto the stage to present the best new artist Grammy with Megan Thee Stallion, the women found that they were wearing the same outfit. The deep v, thin straps, thick gold chains, and gathered black fabric looked fabulous on both women. The “Sweetest Pie” singers stared at each other, aghast.
“I was told I had the exclusive,” said Dua Lipa.
Folks—very much unlike the now infamous Chris Rock and Will Smith interaction at last week’s Oscars—this was a bit. Megan had actually showed up at the 2022 Grammys ceremony wearing a killer Roberto Cavalli one-shoulder gown. The two women, both previous winners of the best new artist award, both rocked the Versace look in their moment as presenters and got the audience even more laser focused when Donatella Versace herself leapt out of the crowd and onto the stage to remedy the situation.
“Basta! Basta!” she shouted, wearing a shimmering gold mini dress and thigh-high latex platform heels. She gave each women a split-second makeover, slipping a piece of fabric off of each of them to turn Dua’s look into a pants set and giving Megan’s a high slit. “Now we both look like winners,” said Megan, ever the woman-supporting-women. (That’s Glamour’s Woman of the Year, for ya!)
As Diet Prada pointed out, this isn’t the first time this has happened at an award show. In 1998, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston both wore the same brown Vera Wang dress to present an award. Our takeaway: When there’s a twinning moment on stage, everyone wins.
