Prada dressed Maya Hawke Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Letitia Wright, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jeremy Strong and Rami Malek for the 2023 Met Gala celebrating ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty’ held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 1) in New York City.
The Wades have owned this red carpet for several years now.
There were elements of Dwyane Wade look which did pay homage to Karl Lagerfeld such as the gloves, jewelry, the stand collar on his leather gilet and the overcoat.
But it pains me to say that I was underwhelmed by Gabrielle Union’s look.
For another other event it would be ok, but it’s so unlike her to not embrace a theme.
Maya Hawke made a dramatic entrance wearing a Prada white padded cape with floral embroidery worn over a white satin dress.
This all-white look reminded me of the Chanel Spring 2009 all-white Haute Couture collection.
Letitia Wright hasn’t skipped a beat when it comes to fine tailoring since her ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ promo tour.
Had this been a night celebrating Elvis, perhaps I would’ve found the theme.
We haven’t seen Kodi Smit-McPhee since the 2022 Met Gala, and on this occasion, he was also embracing the excess of the ‘70s by rocking a Prada look with a super-sized collar.
I think we will have to look past the theme for the rest of these looks.
Jeremy Strong at least injected plenty of flare into his custom Prada look with the mix of colours and the dapper ruffled shirt.
The broken glass effect on Cai Xukun’s coat and tie made this one of the standout menswear looks for me so far.
Rami Malek white shirt and vest gave me a feeling of “something is missing.”
The best part of this look was his Cartier pin.
