Sheer is here, it’s not going anywhere, and it likely never will. Sheer fabric’s latest champion is Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, who wore a mostly sheer floor-length Schiaparelli couture dress to a screening of her latest movie, HBOMax’s Reality, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on Tuesday, May 16.
Sweeney’s black strapless gown dress has a mermaid fit, with alternating panels of sheer and opaque fabrics. The sheer panels expose her abs and thighs, and the opaque panels have multiple layers of ruffles. (They pattern almost calls to mind censor bars, which would be on theme for the film about classified information.) Sweeney styled the dramatic look with equally dramatic makeup: black cat eye eyeliner, pink cheeks, and light pink matte lipstick. She wore her long blonde hair in soft, summery waves.
This is certainly not the first time that Sweeney has favored a sheer look, joining fellow sheer pioneers including Rita Ora, Florence Pugh, and Kristen Stewart on the front lines of the fight for sheer domination. In April, the 25-year-old actor wore a see-through white skirt over black underwear and sheer tights, paired with a black bra for the launch of Giorgio Armani’s My Way perfume in NYC.
