Nicki Minaj, who raps on the title track ‘Barbie World’ with Ice Spice for the ‘Barbie’ film, attended the world premiere on Sunday (July 9) in Los Angeles, California.
The rapper’s association with Barbie goes way back to her MySpace days, when Nicki coined herself ‘Harajuku Barbie’ (one of her alter egos), and this has been synonymous with Nicki’s identity ever since.
Nicki often refers to herself as Barbie in songs, and even dons her famous Barbie chain.
I say all that to say, that some might feel a little disappointed by her blue Alaïa Spring 2023 outfit, as there isn’t a single trace of Barbie insight, if you discount the calf-length blonde hair.
Personally – even though this is the fourth time we’ve seen this skirt (Kourtney Kardashian, Lara Worthington and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) – I really like this look on Nicki, as I’m not always a fan of her cartoonish style.
Also, this wasn’t her night.
Nicki could’ve easily given us a hundred versions of Barbie by just digging in her own closet, but she took a step back as it was Margot’s night to shine, Solo In The Spotlight.
