Kate Middleton remains hospitalized after undergoing abdominal surgery on January 16. Kensington Palace released a statement regarding the procedure the following day, January 17, noting that the surgery was “successful,” but that the Princess of Wales will remain in the hospital for the next 10 to 14 days.
Per the Palace, Kate is heeding the advice of her medical team and will stay out of the spotlight until after Easter—meaning we won’t see the princess at some of her most anticipated annual engagements, like St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Luckily, Easter comes early this year, on March 31.
It’s unlikely that the princess, 42, will share the specifics of her surgery with the public, though, per Kensington Palace, she “appreciates the interest” the news will generate.
“She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible,” the statement reads, “and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”

Kate was most recently seen in December, when she and her family attended the Christmas morning service at Sandringham. The holiday season was a busy one for the mom of three; she also orchestrated the “Together at Christmas” carol service at Westminster Abbey, part of her Shaping Us campaign.
