At the Vogue World: Paris 2024 event held at Place Vendôme on Sunday, Jared Leto made an unforgettable entrance that instantly evoked the chilling charm of ‘American Psycho.’
His bold ensemble from Maison Margiela’s Spring 2019 collection, was a mix of sheer tunic, boy shorts, asymmetric boots, red finger gloves, and a crucifix made out of nails.
This audacious look initially seemed like a classic case of attention-seeking fashion.
My first reaction was one of horror, questioning the rationale behind such an eccentric outfit, and I asked myself, “was this just another example of Jared’s penchant for making bold, often baffling fashion statements that challenge conventional aesthetics?”
The answer is undoubtedly yes, however, as I continued to look at the outfit, especially with the addition of the coat, it began to grow on me in an unexpected way.
There was something intriguing about the sheer audacity and confidence with which Jared carried himself. Not in terms of the individual pieces of the ensemble, but the way he embodied the look as a whole. And there is no question that the commitment to such a unique and unorthodox fashion choice aligns perfectly with his distinctive style personality.
Perhaps it was this very confidence and commitment that made the look intriguing. Despite my initial reaction to this being a “hot mess,” there was a certain coherence in the chaos.
