It takes a lot of work to look as effortless as Jennifer Lopez.
While J.Lo’s name might not be synonymous with the boho aesthetic, she put her stamp on the rising trend during a recent outing in Los Angeles. On August 17, the 55-year-old singer stepped out in a casual black maxi dress and slouchy raffia handbag, giving the “breezy” ensemble her signature touch with a pair of oversized black sunglasses and gold hoops.
If the goal was to look effortlessly chic, Lopez nailed it with an unfussy blowout and the perfect balance of accessories, opting for a chunky gold bangle on each arm and letting the dress’ plunging neckline speak for itself without any added accoutrements.
Make no mistake, this is not actually an easy-breezy weekend look. For one, the length of the dress grazes the ground, completely masking Lopez’s footwear. Ethereal? Yes. Trip-hazard? Absolutely.
To make matters even less wearable, the back of the dress is largely open, with the fabric held up by a series of geometric straps. Not exactly bra-friendly, though there are a few sticky options that could definitely come in handy.
Even the way Jennifer Lopez carried her bag is somewhat impractical for a shopping trip, shirking a shoulder strap in favor of holding the top handles. And yet, Jennifer Lopez somehow makes all these components feel casual and accessible (though I’m sure the price tag on some of these items are far from it).
In this case, the question is not if you can pull off this look, but how much energy you’re willing to put in for some really cute brunch pics. Personally, I’d say go for it—but don’t forget to watch where your step!
