After dazzling in two striking red dresses at the 2024 BAFTAs and the V&A Summer Party celebrating ‘NAOMI: In Fashion,’ Morfydd Clark made a triumphant return to her signature colour—black—at the season two world premiere of ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’ at the BFI Southbank in London.
The Welsh actress opted for a black Rodarte Fall 2024 dress, evoking a sense of déjà vu. Not because black is her go-to colour, but rather due to the similarity to the dress Kirsten Dunst wore for the ‘Civil War’ LA premiere earlier this year. While the dresses share the same collection and overall aesthetic, it’s the bodice that sets them apart—Kirsten chose a solid version, while Morfydd’s lace bodice with sheer elements feels significantly bolder.
As someone who is captivated by details and textures, especially on black dresses, I found myself instantly more enamoured with Morfydd’s version. The lace bodice adds an element of intrigue and sensuality that elevates the entire look, making it stand out not just in comparison to Kirsten’s choice, but in its own right as a statement of gothic elegance.
The sheer elements of the bodice gave the dress a modern edge, while the lace added a touch of romanticism that beautifully contrasted with the dress’ dark, moody undertones.
This look serves as a reminder – especially to me – of how black can be such a powerful colour.
It’s clear that whether she’s in red or black, Morfydd knows how to command attention on the red carpet.
