It looks like there was one more look from the Mexico City stop of Jenna Ortega’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ press tour following the Vivienne Westwood for the photocall and Lurline for the premiere.
For this junket, she stepped out in a striped Marc Jacobs Fall 2023 blazer, which has me wondering: was it a clever homage or a bit too on-the-nose?
Jenna has been impressing us with her press tour looks, particularly her sartorial tribute to her on-screen mom, Lydia Deetz, in New York. But this latest look brings up a question—did the Marc Jacobs blazer cross the line into being too obvious a reference to the iconic black-and-white stripes of ‘Beetlejuice?’
Had she gone for the full suit, I might have said yes. But by choosing just the blazer, Jenna struck the perfect balance. The rest of her outfit—gap jeans, a simple black crop top, and silver metallic Le Silla Jagger pumps with a spiked heel—kept the look grounded in modernity. It’s a nod to the film without feeling like a costume, which is no small feat considering how easily this theme could have been overdone.
This approach is what makes Jenna’s style on this press tour so compelling. She’s been able to reference ‘Beetlejuice’ in a way that’s playful and respectful of the film’s legacy, without losing her own fashion identity in the process. The Marc Jacobs blazer is another example of how she’s mastered the art of homage, proving that you can tip your hat to the past while still looking very much in the present.
In the end, it’s a look that works—fresh, relevant, and just the right amount of thematic without veering into the overly obvious.
