Margaret Qualley graced the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards alongside her husband, Jack Antonoff, who was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for his work with Taylor Swift and Post Malone on ‘Fortnight.’ Meanwhile, Margaret herself was nominated for Best Production and Best Choreography for Bleechers’ music video ‘Tiny Moves.’
What does Margaret wear to the VMAs?
Chanel Haute Couture, of course.
As you know we put out a call out for the Chanel ambassador to give us something new after the Cannes Film Festival. And to her credit, she has delivered—both at the Toronto Film Festival and once again last night at the VMAs, where she looked beautiful wearing a Chanel black chiffon dress adorned with feathers.
This is a replica of a look from the Chanel Fall 1995 Haute Couture collection, yet it felt anything but dated.
I’m absolutely here for the “Swan Lake/Black Swan” vibes she brought to the red carpet. As a trained ballerina, Margaret’s ethereal grace and connection to the ballet world made this dress a perfect choice. The delicate feathers and fluid chiffon paid homage to her background in dance, especially given her choreography work in the ‘Tiny Moves’ music video.
What I appreciate most about this look is how it manages to be something new, while still grounded in the timeless elegance of Chanel. The VMAs are known for bold, often outrageous fashion statements, but Margaret’s look was refreshingly understated. She didn’t get lost in the chaos of the evening, instead opting for something that felt true to her—classic, refined, and subtly linked to her artistic roots.
This isn’t just another Chanel moment; it’s Margaret making a statement that she can balance tradition with a fresh perspective. For that, she deserves credit.
