Unfortunately, it’s pretty common for fans to take their vitriol for a character out on the actor that plays them—especially when the actor is relatively unknown. Don’t do that!

“Please don’t do this to Gabriel and [Sylvie] you just start and destroying 2 people 😭😭🤣🤣 Be nice on the next season please,” one Emily in Paris fan recently commented on Besson’s Instagram. Friendly reminder: Besson is not a writer on the show and can’t control her character’s story arc.

Of course, some fans are dropping nice(ish) comments as well. “Your character on Emily in Paris is driving me nuts I’m ngl… but you are gorgeous,” one fan wrote. How is Besson supposed to respond to that? Thanks, I guess??? Another wrote, “You’re a good actor because I SERIOUSLY hate your character in S4!!!!” Okay, that’s a bit better.

Here’s everything we know about Thalia Besson, so you don’t confuse her with her Emily in Paris counterpart.

She has very strong family ties to the entertainment industry. The 23-year-old actor is the daughter of French film director Luc Besson and Canadian-French producer Virginie Besson-Silla.

You may know Luc Besson as the writer/director of The Fifth Element (1997) or the co-writer of Taken (2008)—among many other projects. For her part, Virginie Besson-Silla has produced movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) and Lucy (2014), which was also written and directed by her husband.

Thalia Besson, Virginie Besson-Silla, Luc Besson, Sateen Besson, and Mao Besson attend the Dogman premiere in Paris on September 19, 2023.

Besson hasn’t acted in a ton of projects yet…but that’s about to change. According to IMDB, Besson got her start with a small role in the Cara Delevingne-led sci-fi movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017), which was directed by Luc Besson. Other than that, she’s only been credited as an actor in two other roles besides Emily in Paris.
