2024 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Roundup

The 2024 Emmy Awards delivered not only in terms of television excellence but also sartorial splendour. Here’s a roundup of some standout fashion moments, each leaving their mark on the red carpet for better or for worse.

Red and Rubies

Anna Sawai, won Best Actress in a Drama Series for ‘Shōgun,’ dressed in a custom Vera Wang strapless gown. As the newly announced ambassador for Cartier, her high jewelry earrings featuring platinum, rubies, onyx, and diamonds couldn’t have been a better complement to her ensemble.

Metallic Moment

Ella Purnell embraced a full glam aesthetic with a chainmail dress by Rabanne, shimmering under the spotlight. This look showcased a modern take on classic glamour and fit seamlessly into the night’s metallic trend also seen on Kristen Wiig.

Missing Something?

While Gillian Anderson looked undeniably stunning in her silver Emilia Wickstead gown, the styling left much to be desired. The gown itself carried the weight of the look, but with lacklustre styling, it felt as though something was missing—a bolder accessory or hairstyle might have balanced out the overall effect.

Imbalance

Gillian Jacobs delivered an elegant red carpet moment in Roland Mouret, but the top half of the dress seemed too large, affecting the overall silhouette.

Deserved Better

Janelle James looked beautiful, but her Marchesa gown left something to be desired. The label’s fabric and floral accents, once the brand’s signature strength, fell flat here. The dress lacked the impact Janelle deserved on such a big night, and she would have benefited from a more dynamic design.

Simple Yet Elegant Victory

Jean Smart, winner of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for ‘Hacks,’ embraced minimalism with a custom couture gown by Laura Basci. The simplicity of the gown highlighted Jean’s timeless elegance, allowing her Emmy to be the ultimate accessory of the night.

A Royal Sparkle

Kathy Bates sparkled like a midnight sky in a shimmering Armani gown, a look that felt regal and timeless. The colourful handbag added an unexpected twist, and Katy almost seemed destined to play royalty. I couldn’t help but imagine her as the Queen Mother in ‘The Crown.’

McQueen Majesty

Laverne Cox has shifted from her Mugler obsession to the regal drama of Alexander McQueen, wearing a vintage gold embroidered gown. The styling—featuring a velvet cape and statement necklace—elevated the look to another level of red carpet opulence, proving her versatility once again.

Flapper Fantasy

Leslie Bibb delivered vintage glamour in a one-of-a-kind Michael Kors Collection ivory duchesse satin gown. The hand-embroidered sequins, pearls, and beads lent a flapper vibe that was as timeless as it was chic. Paired with Manolo Blahnik Sanghal sandals, the look transported us to another era of elegance.

Familiar but Fabulous

After her recent Chloé look, Maya Rudolph gave us déjà vu with another dress from the Chloé Fall 2024 collection. However, this time, the colour choice worked perfectly in her favour. The deeper hue complemented her skin-tone, while her Bulgari High Jewellery Serpenti necklace was the perfect finishing touch.

The Suit Misses the Mark

Meryl Streep’s red carpet appearance in a pink McQueen suit didn’t quite hit the mark. While the suit itself was modern and bold, the length felt off, distracting from what could have been a standout moment. A McQueen’s Mini Cross Bar bag completed her look.

Fendi Fantasy

Miriam Leone’s custom beige corset gown by Fendi was pure magic. The beautifully draped silk satin skirt and train paired with a Bulgari High Jewellery Serpenti necklace was one of the night’s most elegant and romantic looks, showing Miriam’s ongoing love affair with the house of Fendi.

Feathered Miu Miu Fantasy

Moeka Hoshi stepped out in a Miu Miu gown that defied expectations. While we’re used to seeing crystals from Miu Miu, the addition of black feathers against the white chiffon gown brought the perfect contrast and modernity to the look, keeping it from fading into the background.

Versace Victory

Sheryl Lee Ralph absolutely slayed in her custom Atelier Versace black silk halter gown. The expertly crafted corset created a stunning silhouette, showcasing Sheryl’s figure and making her one of the most sensational looks of the night.

Pink Dilemma

Rita Ora looked beautiful in a Tamara Ralph Fall 2024 gown, but the fact that there were two similar pale pink, feather-caped gowns at the same event begs the question of the designer’s strategy. It felt like a missed opportunity for greater differentiation, even though Rita herself was stunning.
