Celebrities in Valentino for the 2024 Academy Museum Gala

Alessandro Michele, who has wasted no time getting back into celebrity dressing since joining Valentino as their new creative director, dressed three celebrities for the 2024 Academy Museum Gala held in LA on Saturday, showcasing his talent for blending traditional tailoring with playful, avant-garde twists. Each look was unique, yet they all exuded the flair that the designer is celebrated for.

Polka-Dot Perfection

Eddie Redmayne is no stranger to taking fashion risks, but this Valentino Spring 2025 jacket brought a touch of whimsy we haven’t seen in menswear since Leslie Odom Jr.’s polka dot suit at the 2022 SAG Awards. The polka-dot detailing on Eddie’s tailored jacket, paired with a horse-shoe shaped waistcoat, gave the actor an elegant yet playful look. What really sold me, though, were the minor details: the toggle detail on the stand collar in place of a traditional bow tie and the contrasting buttons. This blend of classic tailoring and unexpected flourishes put Eddie firmly in the running for Best Dressed of the Year, yet again. The Valentino Garavani Derby shoes completed his look, adding to this mix of refined edge with playful polka dots.

The Dandy

Colman Domingo, who is set to co-chair the 2025 Met Gala, always delivers high-fashion dandyism, and this look from Valentino’s Spring 2025 collection was no exception. The fringe-tie black jacket and contrasting red trousers were bold yet impeccably tailored. The lace gloves, the toggle detail on the stand collar, and the sharp dual-colour Valentino Garavani loafers were all quintessential Colman. However, the Valentino Garavani Cat bag was a step too far for me—it felt gimmicky rather than chic. Let’s save that one for Jared Leto.

Quirky Meets Quirky

If there’s one celebrity who can pull off a quirky accessory, it’s Natasha Lyonne. Wearing a fringed dress from Valentino’s Resort 2025 Avant Les Débuts collection, the actress paired it with leather driving gloves that some might find unnecessary. But for me, it’s exactly this kind of offbeat styling that makes Natasha’s style so fun. The dress itself was a showstopper, but the gloves added a touch of irreverence that only she can carry with such ease.
