When Jennifer Lopez appeared at the ‘Unstoppable’ photocall on Saturday during the 2024 AFI Fest in Hollywood, she served a look that felt, at best, like an experiment—and not entirely a successful one.
From the neck up, JLo appeared refreshingly radiant, her beauty in classic form. But from the neck down, the outfit painted a different picture, one that left me wondering if she was trying a bit too hard to blend a cool-girl edge with her signature high-glamour aesthetic.
JLo wore a No. 21 Resort 2025 ensemble featuring an oversized jacket, which she slouched over her shoulders. The slouchy styling, typically a move toward effortless chic, didn’t quite come across as intended. It felt forced, especially for someone whose natural style gravitas tends to reside in polished elegance rather than an exaggerated attempt at casual cool.
Then we have the Gucci Angel platforms. These chunky heels clashed with the intended vibe of the outfit, leaving the look feeling somewhat disjointed rather than seamlessly put together.
The final, and perhaps most confusing, touch was the Strathberry nano tote bag. This classic “ladies who lunch” accessory didn’t align with the edgier direction of the outfit and seemed more suited to a polished, tailored ensemble rather than an oversized, laid-back look.
In juxtaposition with her cast standing beside her, the disjointed outfit felt even more pronounced, standing out less as a fashion statement and more as an experiment that missed the mark.
While JLo is no stranger to taking risks, this attempt felt off-brand. Her allure has always stemmed from a confident, seamless sense of glamour—one that this outfit didn’t quite manage to capture. Hopefully, her next appearance will tap back into that timeless JLo magic.
