Sarah Paulson took to the stage at the Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday to honour her friend and renowned designer Marc Jacobs at the 2024 WSJ Innovators Awards, doing so in a piece that embodies the designer’s playful spirit and design sensibility.
Dressed in a Marc Jacobs Fall 2024 creation, Sarah’s look was both whimsical and sophisticated, capturing a style that is distinctively Marc Jacobs.
True to the designer’s signature, the dress is playful, beautiful, and carries a hint of humour. Playfulness radiates from the off-the-shoulder cut and high-low hemline, elements that lend a bit of theatricality to the look. The Swiss embroidery brings an undeniable beauty, weaving delicate, intricate detail into the fabric that contrasts delightfully with the quirkiness of the design.
And then, there’s the humour—her heels, with their unusual, almost rhinoceros-like shape, added a tongue-in-cheek element.
Some might say that this look is a bit too twee for Sarah.
But for those of us who appreciate when she steps out of her comfort zone, this look is a treat. It’s a reminder that Sarah is no stranger to surprise, and her collaboration with Marc Jacobs offers a refreshing moment of light-heartedness.
If you do feel that this doesn’t fit Sarah’s usual style and gravitas, for me it shows that in moments like these, her willingness to experiment shines.
