The 2024 GQ Men of the Year Awards on Tuesday night transformed The Roof Gardens in London into a star-studded celebration of style, talent, and individuality. While the night was dedicated to celebrating men, it was the women who truly brought the fashion drama—dominated by black, with the occasional pop of color breaking through.
Slashed and Stunning
Caroline Polachek delivered an avant-garde chic in McQueen Spring 2025 look that played with structure and illusion. The cleverly crafted slashed blazer design turned heads, but it was her choice to let her hair partially veil her face that added an air of mystery and edge.
Draped in Decadence
Ambika Mod’s Acne Studios Fall 2024 gown showcased both luxe wool texture and dramatic draping. While the dress was clearly too long, her pose expertly disguised the issue. For me, this was one of the night’s standout moments for the women.
Vintage Vibes
Ellie Bamber took a break from her Chanel streak and turned to the Dolce & Gabbana archives. Her foiled jersey and tulle dress from the Fall 1998 collection proved why vintage is having a major moment—this look had an impact, as it’s thrilling to see Ellie step into something so refreshingly different, and put her own spin on how it was presented on the runway.
Black on Repeat
‘The Severed Sun’ actress Emma Appleton wore a Saint Laurent leather jacket and sheer skirt which you should recognise, as it is the black version of Zoe Saldana’s ‘Emilia Pérez’ London Film Festival photocall look.
Suit with a Twist
Kaya Scodelario’s black Dolce & Gabbana double-breasted suit could’ve gone unnoticed if not for the floral appliqué and the sultry styling with a silk balconette bra. The addition of Bvlgari jewels elevated the look further.
A Splash of Colour
Lolly Adefope defied the black memo, lighting up the carpet in a vibrant, hand-painted Marni Fall 2024 dress. This bold choice, seen previously in different styles on Tracee Ellis Ross and Hunter Schafer, was a breath of fresh air amid the sea of monochrome. I love the matching shoes.
Sheer Bravery
Marisa Abela didn’t let the cold deter her, stepping out in a Dolce & Gabbana sheer bustier dress styled with a tuxedo jacket and a patent leather Sicily bag. While not groundbreaking, the look had undeniable allure.
