Blake Lively, Billie Eilish and Rosalía head up this year’s New York-bound affair.
The first Monday in May is always a joyous day in the fashion world. With those occupying the zeitgeist all descending upon the streets of New York to attend the most coveted event of the season, the Met Gala is an affair that has all of us abuzz with excitement. And, after a night filled with serves, floods of Instagram posts and the essence of this year’s theme, Gilded Glamour, we are bringing you a round-up of our favourite looks of the evening. Head below to enjoy…
Emma Chamberlain
An unexpected yet particularly prominent accessory at this year’s Met was the tiara. And while they littered the red, white and blue carpet, Emma Chamberlain took the crown with hers. Sitting above a slick bleach blonde bob, the headpiece married well with Emma’s regal Louis Vuitton outfit. With an elegant, floor-sweeping skirt meeting a ruffled cropped top with puff sleeves, Emma served modern-day Beauty and the Beast, and for that we are thankful.
Blake Lively
Nothing gets Met Gala onlookers stirring quite like a dual outfit reveal. So, naturally, Blake Lively’s look last night has made its way onto our round-up. Dripping in a coral, iridescent Versace strapless gown, ripples of fabric gave the co-chair’s ensemble a fluidity which was most captivating in nature. With an exaggerated bow laying atop a grand train, Blake had already achieved the status of best dressed. But, the actor was not finished there. After a quick unravelling of the bow in question was complete, a second icy blue train was revealed, finished with intricate embroidery. With the bold colours also subtly nodding to the infamous Statue of Liberty, it is fair to say that it was a dress of physical and poetic depth.
Stormzy
Representing the best of British at this year’s affair was none other than Stormzy. In what can best be described as a drastic departure from his usual aesthetic, the rapper turned to the minds over at Burberry and opted for a bold all-white ensemble complete with a cape. If we don’t see a cape in the next Stormzy music video, we are going to be disappointed.
Billie Eilish
Let’s be honest, no one understood this year’s Gilded Glamour assignment quite like Billie Eilish. In custom Gucci, the superstar opted for a dusty pastel colour palette which seeped into a panelled bustier corset, met by a hip-accentuating satin skirt. With chic lace sleeves, a bust-adorning bloom and a contrasting black choker also featuring, glamour was practically cascading out of this look. Ladies and gentlemen, we present you with the official diamond of the season.
Gigi Hadid
No Met Gala round-up would be complete without a feature from a Hadid sister and this year, Gigi captured our attention. Washed over in a rich red wine hue, the model looked positively striking as a dual-textured corset and trouser moment was dramatically juxtaposed by a thick-ribbed puffer-like coat, all courtesy of Versace. Providing a silhouette akin to those Bridgerton-esque gowns of the Gilded Age, the coat took this year’s theme and catapulted it into the modern-day.
Rosalía
Serving up ruffles galore this year was singing sensation Rosalía. With an intricately embellished bodice billowing out into a deeply textured train, all of which was crafted from an off-white meets seafoam hue, the Givenchy moment was just that, a moment. And, while looking undeniably elegant, the star ensured that a dash of her Motomami style made its way into the look thanks to the feature of a pair of outrageously thick shades.
Normani
While we have been treated to bold colours galore thus far, Normani served up an all-black look, equally as captivating as the rest. Dressed by Christian Siriano, the singer disregarded the otherwise common corseted look and opted for a midriff-baring moment, comprised of a thick, structured skirt complete with three doughnut-like tiers and a caged bralette. With a dramatic headpiece also making an appearance, it was clear that statement-making was on the brain for Normani, and she did just that.
Kendall Jenner
And, the winner of the most dramatic train at this year’s Met goes to Kendall Jenner! With a sheer top remaining understated in nature, Kendall let her Prada skirt do the talking as a ruffled hem crept up the skirt to form dramatic detailing. Also, Kendall with the bleached brows? We are here for it.
Olivia Rodrigo
Another Versace moment we cannot stop thinking about was served up by current it-girl, Olivia Rodrigo. Dripping in a glittering deep lilac hue, reminiscent of her SOUR album cover, the pop sensation looked mesmerising in the figure-hugging number and signature platform heels. As for accessories, another Olivia Rodrigo-esque motif that featured was a set of life-like butterflies that were woven into her hair. On brand and on theme, Olivia killed it.
Evan Mock
One of the more ‘out there’ cuts of the evening came from the king of out-of-the-box dressing himself, Evan Mock. Also opting for a creamy corset and pants pairing, his outer shell was simple. But, with a burst of white featuring in the form of a choir boy collar and ruffled sleeves, a costume-esque air surrounded the star, making his look one of the most note-worthy of the evening.
Nicole Coughlan
Of course, the Met Gala’s theme harked on the aesthetic of everyone’s favourite Netflix show, Bridgerton, so naturally, we had to take a moment to honour one of the show’s leading ladies. Taking to the Met’s famed steps in a feather-laden Richard Quinn gown, Nicola Coughlan opted for a divine contrasting candy pink and deep black colour palette, complemented by a dusty pink eye shadow swiped across her lids. As for the jewels, they were served up by none other than Swarovski. Embellishing the star’s dress and providing the sparkle to some statement earrings, it is now fair to say that Quinn and Swarovski are a match made in fashion heaven.
