Ariana DeBose, who portrays Calypso in Kraven the Hunter, joined her co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the film’s New York City premiere on Tuesday at AMC Lincoln Square Theater.
I’ve been vocal about my feelings on Ariana’s style in the past, particularly during the 2022 awards season when I felt her team didn’t help her achieve her full potential.
However, her partnership with Karla Welch in 2024 has marked a turning point, with a string of looks that are not only flattering but aligned with her dynamic personality.
This Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2024 tulle long-sleeve dress, complete with a satin bow waistband, is no exception. While some might say that the best thing about this was the decision to layer the bra from the runway, I find myself fully immersed in the narrative she’s presenting here.
The look feels unapologetically theatrical, which suits Ariana’s energy perfectly. Yes, it’s sheer. Yes, it leaves little to the imagination. But isn’t that the point? Inclusion of the veil, dramatic red lips, and those sparkling chandelier earrings lends the ensemble an air of mystery and intrigue.
Ariana is selling a story, and I’m buying every piece of it. The theatricality, the boldness, and the glamour—it all works in her favour.
It’s a mood, and honestly, I will take this over those creased taffeta creations with the hemline dragging on the floor.
