The 2024 Toronto Film Festival saw a parade of stars donning the sleek designs of Celine by Hedi Slimane and Celine Homme, with Katy Perry, Lily McInerny, Orlando Bloom, and Aliocha Schneider each showcasing their individual takes on the French luxury label.
The Cut Premiere
Katy Perry, attending in support of her partner Orlando Bloom, made a striking appearance that signalled a welcome return to form. Known for some recent fashion missteps that felt like they were trying too hard, Katy’s Celine saree-inspired ensemble was a refreshing departure. The look, featuring a bandeau bra paired with a high-waisted skirt and an embroidered veil, felt balanced and elegant. It brought out the glamour without crossing into costume territory—a subtle, tasteful ensemble that reminded us of Katy’s ability to shine when she leans into simplicity.
Orlando Bloom, meanwhile, embraced a contemporary-meets-classic approach in Celine Homme. His ivory sweater with a rising collar added a modern touch to an otherwise traditional suit, giving his look a fresh, understated cool. Orlando’s ensemble demonstrated how small details, like the unique collar, can bring new life to a formal look without overwhelming it.
Bonjour Tristesse Premiere
Lily McInerny made a case for romanticism in Hedi Slimane’s often minimalist world. Her custom Celine Couture gown, with its endearing silhouette, was a departure from Slimane’s usual sharp lines. Amplified by a charming bow, the gown showcased a rare softness from the designer, leaving an impression that perhaps Slimane is beginning to embrace a more diverse design language.
The Les Perles Celine earrings added just the right amount of understated elegance.
Aliocha Schneider’s Celine Homme suit was another standout. The shiny lapels and shoes gave the ensemble a sleek look, while the suit’s clean lines kept the overall look polished and sharp. His outfit was a masterclass in modern tailoring—eye-catching but never excessive.
