Michelle Williams graced the red carpet at the ‘Anora’ premiere during the 50th Deauville American Film Festival, where she was honoured with the Deauville Talent Award. As always, Michelle exuded a quiet sophistication that draws you in, but her Chanel Fall 2023 Haute Couture dress left me feeling a bit conflicted.

There’s no denying that Michelle looked stunning—there’s a serene elegance about her that feels effortless. And when it comes to the top half of her Chanel Fall 2023 Haute Couture dress, I’m completely on board. The tank top silhouette, fully embroidered with delicate camellia motifs in soft white and powder pink, is simply exquisite. It’s classic Chanel, with a sense of grace and femininity that perfectly complements Michelle’s own refined presence.

The floral embroidery added a layer of texture that felt light and fresh. It’s almost as if the top half of the dress was designed to embody everything we love about Chanel—timeless, delicate, and feminine. If this had been a full look based solely on the top half, it would’ve been a home run for me.

However, the bottom half of the dress is where things take a turn for me. The crackled effect hem, in white over a black background, has a unique and artistic quality to it—there’s no denying the craftsmanship. But visually, it almost feels as though Michelle has stepped into a wardrobe and found herself in a different realm, like Narnia. It’s an imaginative effect, and while beautiful on its own, it feels like a stark contrast to the top half.

The juxtaposition between the two halves of the dress leaves me a bit torn. The bottom half has a more dramatic, almost surreal quality that clashes with the dreamy elegance of the top. It’s as though two different design concepts were merged into one, and they don’t quite harmonize in the way I wish they would.

Despite the disconnect between the top and bottom of the dress, I’m still captivated by Michelle’s overall look. The styling was impeccable, particularly with her choice of Chanel Fine Jewelry. The Ruban earrings and Ruban ring were the perfect subtle touches, adding a sense of refinement without overpowering the look. They tied the ensemble together in a way that allowed Michelle’s natural elegance to shine through.
