V-Necks: 5 Things to Avoid

v-necks

There’s something about a v-neck tee that just works! They effortlessly freshen up your wardrobe for those warm seasons of the year. Additionally, they are not only versatile and comfortable but also stylish. You can wear a v-neck on its own, under a hoodie or blazer, or even with a suit! However, before you go styling your v-neck, there are a few things to do to avoid looking silly or tacky.

V-Necks: 5 Things to Avoid When Wearing One

Avoid Deep V-Cuts

The depth of the v-neck neckline ranges from shallow to one that would gain the approval of any guy from Jersey Shore. However, the world of fashion has strongly urged to never wear a v-neck tee with a deep cut. This is to avoid the unflattering presentation of your chest and chest hair. We understand your beach holidays or clubbing in Ibiza may warrant a deep v-neck cut, but nevertheless, opt-out.

As GQ established a few years ago, the lowest point of your v-neck should not descend lower than four inches from the base of your throat. Therefore, while many people may believe a deep v-cut will make them appear sexier or stylish, it’s false advertising. Stay strong!

Avoid Stretched-Out V-Necks

One of the downsides of v-necks is that they tend to stretch around the neckline faster than other styles. We want you to get the most out of your wardrobe and stay sustainable, but do not wear a stretched-out v-neck in public. You will look sloppy, untidy, and unprofessional. So, keep those old v-necks for hardening housework or turn them into pajamas.

Avoid Graphic V-Necks

Today, you can find any color and style v-neck you can think of. And while having a wider selection of colors for styling options and self-expression is great, stay clear from graphic v-necks.

These include even subtle graphics and various logos. A classic graphic tee is hard to pull off once you’ve reached a certain age, regardless. But a graphic v-neck makes it near impossible. So, stock up on some base colors like black, white, navy, and olive. You can also add a few fun options like lavender, mustard, or salmon for those days when you’re feeling especially creative.

Avoid Wearing Them Under V-Neck Sweaters

It may seem counterintuitive, but wearing a v-neck tee under a v-neck sweater is not advised. It is not a flattering combination, so opt for a classic button-down shirt or a polo t-shirt. A good rule of thumb is to remember that v-neck sweaters are to be worn with collared shirts, while v-neck tees are worn under sports shirts and jumpers.

Avoid Low-Quality V-Necks

Last, but certainly not least, do not buy low-quality v-neck tees. No amount of styling will make them appear flattering. No need to break the bank trying to find the best t-shirt, but take time investigating the brands and choose high-quality fabrics and production for long-lasting v-necks.
