While we were thrilled to see Ferragamo introducing the totally new and surely future iconic Cage bag earlier this spring, there is still very much a place in our fashion-obsessed hearts for the Lola. Burberry debuted their own newest signature bag during the Fall/Winter 2019 season, and it’s safe to say it has been a firm favorite of the international style set ever since. Chief Creative Officer Ricardo Tisci seems to have no trouble explaining exactly why.

“Lola, at the very core, embodies an attitude,” he says. “She is strong, sensual and intelligent all at once.”

Naturally, then, any campaign for the Lola would have to feature women who – just like us! – unquestionably live up to that ideal. In this case, it was Bella Hadid, Lourdes Leon, Jourdan Dunn and Ella Richards, the latter the daughter of Marlon and granddaughter of Stones legend Keef (we’re guessing he’s sufficiently proud). It was styled by former French Vogue Fashion Director Suzanne Koller, with video and images by Torso Solutions.

In the film, the women are seen riding mechanical horses which look eerily real, before it breaks into a quick cut montage in which we’re reminded just how fabulous one can look carrying a Burberry Lola, whether it’s on one’s arm or even atop one’s bonce (as was the case for Ms. Richards).

Tisci recalls how he wished to devise a campaign that perfectly captured and celebrated the attitude and defining attributes of the true Burberry woman.

“So together with Torso,” he says, “we created a fantasy world where she is free to exhibit her strength and be captured in all of her beauty from every angle. Strong women have always inspired me beyond limitations, and Bella, Lourdes, Jourdan and Ella embody that spirit. They represent femininity at its most powerful, and the essence of that attitude that is inherently Lola.”

For her part, Ms. Richards enthuses about the “honor” of having the opportunity to collaborate with both Burberry and Tisci. And she anything but shy in her enthusiasm for the Lola.

“For me, Lola means independence,” she elucidates. “Having the control to do what you want, when you want, and be who you want to be. I think it’s important that everyone has that freedom of choice.”

Yeah, we think her grandad and Mick Jagger even once wrote a song about exactly that.
