The Peekaboo bag is such a thing, that it gets its own “bar” (section) in the Fendi boutiques (to wit, the opening last spring in Miami). And for 2022, the exalted Italian fashion house has just launched the Peekaboo ISeeUPetite – which evinces all the sophisticated sensuality of the original, but just in a more mini form.
To celebrate the new arrival, they’ve tapped Italian film director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria) to direct a short film starring Adwoa Aboah. Fendi calls Rome its home, of course – and in the film we see the British supermodel floating blissfully above the Eternal City, chasing after a multitude of equally floating Peekaboo bags, in really fabulous colors.
Charmingly soundtracking this lovely levitation is the song ‘Let’s Walk,’ from the Broadway musical The Light in the Piazza – which actually contains the worrying lyric, “When we are at a certain age / We almost fall on purpose / Fall with all our might.”
Spoiler alert, it all turns out fine, as Aboah eventually alights on the majestic steps of Fendi’s Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana (the Roman HQ), and then zips off to somewhere surely fabulous – with a gorgeous black Peekaboo on her elegant arm. We’re not sure if we’re more jealous of her bag, or of the fact that she is in Rome, and we’re, well…not.
