These days, it seems like every celebrity and their mother is coming out with their own beauty brand. But every so often, a superstar like the Rare Beauty liquid blush manages to transcend the otherwise heavily saturated market. And it’s not alone: Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty makeup line, which debuted in 2020, has earned plenty of praise for its expansive collection of products—but none have reached viral fame quite like the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush.
After seeing the blush pop up one too many times on my TikTok feed—and, for what it’s worth, I still haven’t seen one bad review of it—I finally decided to take the leap and press “Buy Now”. After a week of waiting, the blush finally arrived at my doorstep, and I couldn’t wait to try it for myself.
I always tend to go a little overboard when applying blush, so I went in with two dots on each cheek. While the dots were incredibly tiny, I was pleasantly surprised at how vibrant the pigment was—maybe too vibrant. In fact, until that moment, I never thought there were such things as too much blush. However, after seeing my clown-like cheeks in the mirror, I instantly regretted not starting more slowly with just one dot. All to say: A little goes a long way.
The blush’s lightweight liquid formula is worth a shout-out, too. It’s vegan and cruelty-free, not to mention free of parabens, sulfates, and mineral oils—making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin. And as someone who’s struggled with sensitivity their entire life, I can confidently say that this product did not irritate me in the slightest.
The Rare Beauty liquid blush comes in 11 shades in both matte and radiant finishes, ranging from hot pink to berry and beyond in names like Lucky and Faith. I decided to step outside of my comfort zone by opting for Believe, which is a deep mauve. While the shade itself is stunning, it may have been a bit too stark of a contrast against my fair skin. Next time, I’ll probably try Hope (a lighter mauve) or Encourage (a soft neutral pink).
