Rihanna’s iconic pregnancy with boyfriend A$AP Rocky was apparently unplanned, according to a profile of the ANTI singer on the cover of the May 2022 edition of Vogue.

The Fenty billionaire sat down with the magazine to discuss her third-trimester maternity style and impending motherhood, telling Vogue that when it came to getting pregnant, she was just “having fun,” with the Harlem rapper: “I wouldn’t say planning. But certainly not planning against it. I don’t know when I ovulate or any of that type of shit,” Rihanna said. “And then it was just there on the test. I didn’t waste any time. I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.”

Rihanna’s pregnancy has been nothing short of unconventional, especially where maternity clothes are concerned. This is the woman who wore a G-string to a Dior! Her source for parenting inspiration is likewise untraditional: She holds up Real Housewives‘s star Teresa Guidice as the kind of protective mom she wants to be. The 34-year-old mother-to-be also revealed during her interview that she’s been enjoying the ride, although she’s a bit nervous to get hit with postpartum depression, something Britney Spears, who struggles with perinatal depression, may be able to commiserate about.

“Will I feel out of control emotionally?,” the beauty CEO said. “Those are the stories I hear from other women that scare me.”

Although feeling out of sorts is a valid fear from the singer, it doesn’t appear to be stopping her from living her best life. In classic Rihanna style, the star wore a stunning custom Alaïa lace jumpsuit with matching red heels for her cover shot. Like most Annie Leibovitz editorials, Rihanna’s recent fashion story seems to reference her eccentric real-life pregnancy looks, from duvet-style Marc Jacobs coats and crystal-covered abdomens to cropped leather jackets and Dior motorcycle gloves. Nothing, it seems, is out of the question for Rihanna.

Fingers crossed Fenty Baby will inherit their stylish mother’s and father’s eyes for design—according to Rih, it needs to happen: “You just broke my heart!,” Rihanna joked with Vogue about the possibility about her child not being into fashion. “Yo! That is the day that I will have a problem, if my child don’t like fashion? What?? You’ve got me so nervous!”

We can’t wait to see the looks Rihanna and Rocky’s bundle of joy will wear on their way to daycare? The Row kids? Baby Bode, perhaps? Only time will tell.
