Nobody Amazons harder than a new mom. When you were up from 2:30 to 5 a.m. pushing a stroller around the living room in hopes of getting your baby back to sleep, and are still wearing the same spitup-encrusted clothes while doing mental math to figure out the last time you showered, there’s nothing more appealing than not running out to buy wipes or a new nursing bra. Why would you, when the angel that is your UPS delivery person can leave whatever you need on your doorstep within the next 48 hours? (Or much sooner, should you happen to live in a major metropolitan area.) There’s also no place like Amazon when your baby needs some maddeningly specific item, like a particular brand/shape of pacifier or bottle nipple that none of your local stores carry.
I know because I’ve been there. When my babies were tiny, I clocked countless hours reading reviews of potentially sanity-saving baby items on Amazon while nursing and pumping at regular intervals throughout the day and night. Finding not only what I needed but the potentially “best” version of a product became my part-time hobby. Oh, the internal debates that came with my Amazon addiction. Would life be better with an HD video monitor, instead of my old-school audio set? (Or would I just obsess more?) Would this award-winning rattle be that much better than the many my baby had tossed aside? Which travel-friendly umbrella stroller gets the best reviews?
So when Glamour enlisted my help polling moms on their best Amazon baby purchases, I couldn’t resist clicking back in my own order history to remind me—through the misty brain fog that’s another universal part of motherhood—of my own all-time-best online shopping discoveries for Baby. Looking back, which ones really were the game changers? For starters, Water Wipes. I bought them based solely on the rave reviews and never went back. (They’re so much more damp than other brands—to get tushies truly clean—plus, they’re unscented and hypoallergenic. (My babies all had really sensitive skin.))
Another favorite: three-packs of Aquaphor, which I’d order on the regular. I used this multipurpose miracle worker to protect and moisturize my baby’s face on cold city walks, to prevent and soothe diaper rashes, as boo-boo cream, and even as lip balm when my own went M.I.A. amid the chaos of new-parent life.
My more specialized must-have skin saver, found on Amazon, was Lansinoh Lanolin Nipple Cream, which took the edge off breastfeeding pain.
With my second baby, I finally ordered and figured out how to wear an Ergobaby carrier, which saved my back and my life in so many ways; I could also use it to backpack my toddler while pushing my newborn in the Snap-n-Go—another must-have, IMO, even if you already registered for a fancy stroller.
Another Amazon order gone very right: The time I took a chance on a soft sink baby bath, after struggling to keep my baby calm using the in-tub kind.
Talking to other moms, I heard mention of other items I, too, adored—forget cheapie waterproof covers for the crib mattress and just get the Naturepedic, mentioned below—and also heard about items I only wish I had known to order back then. (Wait, trimming a newborn’s nails doesn’t have to feel like wrestling a baby tiger?!.) Get ready to fill that cart, if you weren’t already: Here are the very best things 13 moms bought on Amazon during their baby’s first six months.
