After extensive renovation, the 219 rue Saint-Honoré storefront is here.
Saint-Honoré is one of Paris’ most famous streets. Lined with some of the world’s top designer stores, gorgeous bakeries, and beaming with true Parisian architecture, this street is the place to be. Joining the list of remarkable destinations on the rue Saint-Honoré is Acne Studios. After an extensive renovation, their 219 Saint-Honoré storefront is finally open.
Taking a corner position, the new store combines the brand’s ethos with the elegance of Paris. Taking Acne Studios’ design language and the muse of a Parisian landscape, the new store aims to showcase all the counter-cultural elements that define the Stockholm based brand and its new setting.
The space was designed by Barcelona-based architecture studio Arquitectura-G. The exterior and interior of the store are covered in Saint Maximin stone, a type of limestone that’s found in the quarries of northern Paris. This incredibly soft, golden-beige limestone is a key part of the city, as it’s used extensively in its construction. The stone was used to clad the walls, floors, and columns to create an infrastructure-like effect.
“Lately, I’ve been hanging out at the Rålis skate park in Stockholm, which was built under a bridge to prevent the concrete skate bowls from getting wet and slippery. I find it a poetic spot, and it reminds me a little of Paris because there are so many bridges in the city. I wanted the store to feel like you were sitting under a bridge. I like the idea of a secret society, a subculture, existing under the arches – and I thought it was a good way to think of Acne Studios as a brand on the big fashion street,” said Jonny Johansson, Creative Director of Acne Studios.
One of Paris’ many shining qualities is its light. From the glittering lights that cover the Eiffel Tower, to the breathtaking view of the city at night, lights are an integral part of the culture. Acne Studios honors this light by stripping back the floor to ceiling windows, allowing more light to enter the store. The light creates a connection between the upper and lower floors, allowing for a dramatic and elegant look.
Arquitectura-G designed a set of angular stairs that lead to the upper floor. Here, the fashion brand employed Benoit Lalloz, a French artist and long-standing Acne Studios collaborator, to create the light fixtures on the ceiling. The internal lights sit in a wave-like form, bringing a sense of fluidity to contrast the stone-clad columns. British designer Max Lamb designed the furniture found on this level. Black leather seating and hand-dyed fabric display units and tills are constructed in globular, organic shapes to offset the sharp doorways, stairs and shelves.
To make the opening even more grand, the new store is stocked with looks from the Fall/Winter 2022 men and women’s collections. Key shoes and accessories, such as the Musubi bag are in stock as well. To experience the combination of Stockholm and Paris, the 219 rue Saint-Honoré storefront has exactly what you’re looking for.
