Back in 2002, Nia Vardalos’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding, based on her own upbringing and romantic life, went on an unprecedented box office run, climbing every week through sheer word of mouth to become the highest-grossing romantic comedy ever. Not too bad for an indie starring a 40-year-old woman most audiences had never heard of. So it’s not surprising that the massive hit spawned a (short-lived) TV series and then, in 2016, a sequel. But did anyone think we’d be back for round three?

In June 2022, Vardalos announced via Instagram that not only is MBFGW 3 happening, it’s already filming in Greece. And this time, Vardalos herself is directing!

“Thank you to Playtone, Gold Circle, HBO and Focus! And much love and gratitude to you all for your support as we waited to film. Greece baby. Greece! 🇬🇷 🎥 #Mybigfatgreekwedding3,” she wrote in the caption.

Here’s everything we know about the flick:

Who’s in the cast?

Vardalos will return as Toula, but no other official cast announcements have been made. Joey Fatone implied on Instagram that he is involved in the project, which honestly makes me really happy.
