Ana de Armas who? The only woman I see here is Norma Jean, a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe.

The Cuban-Spanish actor is completely transformed in the latest look at the forthcoming Blonde, the Marilyn Monroe movie starring de Armas as the Hollywood icon. Netflix dropped the first trailer for the hotly anticipated film on Thursday, showing snippets of de Armas recreating some of Monroe’s most unforgettable moments—including, yes, the time she stood over a subway grate in that white dress.

Blonde is not your average Marilyn Monroe biopic (of which there are many). The film, directed by Andrew Dominik, is based on the novel by Joyce Carole Oates, which explores the star’s inner life and posits that Monroe was actually assassinated.

“The film moves along with her feelings and her experiences,” Ana de Armas said to Netflix Queue. “There are moments when we are inside of her body and mind, and this will give the audience an opportunity to experience what it was like to be Norma and Marilyn at the same time.”

That said, the movie is not completely fantasy. In new images, we see filmmakers meticulously recreating iconic shots of the actor and Joe DiMaggio, played by Bobby Cannavale, as well as Monroe’s performance of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
