Time flies when you’re serving looks—and believe it or not, it’s already fashion month again. Our fashion mood boards have managed to survive the summer heat and are desperate for a refresh. Luckily, nobody does street style quite like New York City! New York Fashion Week is back and you’ll want a front-row seat, so enjoy a debrief on the entire NYFW schedule below.
Twice a year, the city is bursting with energy from new designers, iconic American brands and a frazzled intern or two. The official CFDA calendar is here and it’s packed with a combination of live and virtual shows. If you’re looking to get an IRL glimpse at some celeb street-style moments or have the guts to smooth-talk your way into some shows, you’ll want to check the schedule for in-person events. A few live show highlights of the week include Fendi, Marni, COS, PatBO, Proenza Schouler, Tom Ford, Jason Wu and The Blonds. (And BTW, we’ll be sure to cover every great look and moment on our Instagram, so there won’t be any fashion FOMO.)
But this year, it’s easier than ever to attend—because Afterpay is working with designers to “democratize fashion week”, AKA special events will be open to the public. The key to attending is just knowing where to be and when!
To kick things off, Kim Shui will be presenting her SS’23 collection at an iconic New York City landmark on Monday, September 12th at 8pm and Afterpay is giving New Yorkers (and visitors!) unprecedented access to the show with a full view of Shui’s backstage production. If you’ve spent hours watching the behind-the-scenes runway videos on Vogue’s YouTube channel, this is your chance to see how the magic happens IRL. Kim Shui’s collection will also include the first-ever crowd-sourced runway garment made entirely out of pixels submitted by the public in partnership with Afterpay.
If you’re not able to catch Kim Shui’s backstage reveal, you may just stumble upon a runway show—really! Fashion and accessories design studio Area is making a highly anticipated return to NYFW and will be partnering with Afterpay to take the show to the streets. Literally. Pop-up projections of Area’s SS’23 show will be appearing around the city from September 12th through 14th. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to take your lunch break outdoors.
And finally, Afterpay will be sponsoring NYFW:The Talks again this season. The Talks is a series of conversations with industry leaders and changers and can be accessed in-full online at NYFW.com.
If you’re not able to be in New York City during fashion week, you can still get a taste of the week’s unbeatable energy and design virtually. Many designers are hosting digital extensions of their collection or hosting a livestream so anyone can enjoy.
