It’s a sad, sad day in the corgi world.
During Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral, the late monarch’s corgis said goodbye to their dog mom before she was laid to rest. The two good dogs— Muick and Sandy— were outside Windsor Castle waiting for the Queen’s casket to arrive during the royals’s final procession ahead of a small, intimate ceremony consisting of family and friends on the property.
The two royal corgis were a 90th birthday gift given to her by her son, Prince Andrew. In 2015, Queen Elizabeth famously told her longtime advisor Monty Roberts that she “did not want to leave any behind,” as she was getting older. Cue the water works.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson will take in Muick and Sandy now that the Queen has passed. The late royal bred corgis and dorgis (a dauschind-corgi mix) throughout her life, most a direct descendant of her first corgi, Susan. During her time on the throne, Queen Elizabeth is estimated to have owned 30 Pembroke Welsh corgis, with some speculating she owned up to nine at once, per Reader’s Digest.
While King Charles and Queen Camilla don’t own any corgis, the new heads of the family do own two Jack Russell terriers— Beth and Bluebell— which they rescued in 2017 according to Hello Magazine. Although corgis may be replaced as the new breed-of-choice as King Charles III ascends to the throne and begins his royal duties, all doggos are good doggos, regardless of whether or not they look like a loaf of bread.
My thoughts and prayers are with Muick and Sandy at the moment, who deserve all the belly rubs and head scritches as they enter this new chapter of retirement from royal service.
