My favorite part of the day is when I’m applying thick coats of my very black, waterproof mascara for those big fluttery Bambi-like lashes. The downside? Taking it off at night, which I can low-key describe as a Herculean task. If you know the feeling, then you need the new CeraVe Comforting Eye Makeup Remover on your radar. The beloved drugstore brand may be known for making some of the best cleansers and moisturizers around—but it’s its newest eye makeup remover that keeps me coming back for more.
As someone who has sensitive eyes and breakout-prone skin (and has tried virtually every makeup-removing product available on the shelves), CeraVe’s Comforting Eye Makeup Remover immediately stood out for me because of its derm-approved ingredients list: hyaluronic acid, which is a humectant that helps draw moisture in, plus ceramides which help maintain the skin’s barrier and give you that baby-soft feeling after using. The formula, which has a milky texture, is oil and water-based, making it a great top-shelf addition no matter what kind of mascara you use (or how many layers you apply). Also comforting? Knowing that the product has been tested by ophthalmologists.
Using the makeup remover is straightforward: All I have to do is give the bottle a little shake before squeezing out a dime-sized amount onto a large cotton round. I prefer flat, textured rounds to puffy cotton balls since they absorb more product and allow me to remove my mascara and brow gel without having to rub my eyes harshly. In fact, a single cotton round and a few gentle swipes are all I really need to remove the makeup from both my eyes and eyebrows in a breeze—without causing any irritation or leaving a sticky film behind. If anything, my skin feels so smooth, it’s like I just moisturized. Oh, and like some other milky cleansers I’ve tried, there’s no lingering weird smell.
The only real con for me is the packaging. Since it’s not a pump bottle, I have to pour it out slowly to avoid soaking the cotton pad. That said, for $11, it’s great value for money. The formula gets the job done perfectly—I only need a little product to thoroughly clean my face—and since introducing it into my routine mid-November, I’ve even noticed the milia around my eyes clear up. I can’t say for certain that it’s related, all I know is that other makeup removers have caused my skin to break out and this one hasn’t. Bless.
