EATING: Miznon

As someone completely disinterested in cooking/chopping and generally making food, I’m always up for a restaurant. Run by Israeli chef Eyal Shanai, Miznon specialises in overstuffed Tel Aviv-inspired pitas and hectic vibes. I visited the branch in Paris a few months ago and despite having the same unfussy approach, the new Notting Hill branch was a serene experience by comparison – the chorus of incomprehensible shouting and French inflexions was notably absent from the streets of West London.
The menu is vaguely stressful – printed in comic sans and littered with jokes – but the food is that magical combination of things – quick, delicious and affordable. Particular highlights include the whole roasted cauliflower (a signature that can be seen plastered all over Instagram) and whatever magical concoction was in the deep-fried banana caramel bowl of goodness. A special shoutout must also go to the chicken pita. Was it tahini? Was it tzatziki? I have no idea, but it certainly beat the withering courgette and carton of soup waiting in my fridge.

LOVING: Seungjin Yang

Continuing to feed my current interiors obsession, instagram explore recently served up a dose of tactile bubblegum pink perfection in the shape of Seungjin Yang’s balloon chair. Based in Seoul, the artist specialises in sculptural seating which really scratches the barbie girl itch in my brain and pulls me back into a state of childlike wonder. While I’d love to have one in every colour, it’s the peptobismal pink iteration that’s really caught my eye. A girl can dream…

FOLLOWING: @accidentalinfluencer and @double3xposure

Two twins from Atlanta, Molly and Reese post the perfect trifecta of fashion, food and interiors. There’s a lot of mid-length skirts and mid-century furniture coupled with a dissociative pout and I seem to save about every single one of their posts. On top of being influencers (accidental or not) they recently walked in Gucci’s twin extravaganza and seem to go from day to day wearing chic outfits, snapping pics with Margiela bags and eating perfectly fried eggs. Sign me up.

WEARING: Aeliza
This week I’m shining a spotlight on the newest collection from fashion brand Aeliza, whose latest mission statement encourages us to ‘think more’. With front-facing logos and individual-centred campaigns, Aeliza create long-lasting pieces which encourage us to wear our individuality on our chests. With the encouragement to own clothing which holds a personal connection to you, the pieces are bound to be kept for a long time and worn again, and again. I’ve just gotten my hands on a black hoodie and I know it’s going to stay in my regular rotation for a while.

READING: My Year of Rest and Relaxation
If you’re looking for a book to get you out of a reading slump, I’d highly recommend getting a copy of  Ottessa Moshfegh’s ‘My Year of Rest and Relaxation’. Set in New York City in the year 2000, the unnamed protagonist dedicates herself to sleeping through a year of her life, and I have just finished the entire book in a swift two days.

USING: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! Mascara

A wonderland loves wouldn’t be complete without a grail beauty product. I can’t go without shouting out the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! brown mascara if you’re looking to change up your beauty routine.

Wearing: ATIKA Vintage
Living near Brick Lane means that avoiding the allure of a vintage purchase or two is a daily struggle my soul must contend with. However, few shops in this vintage mecca draw me in as much as ATIKA. The 6,000 SQFT, five-room and two-floor store is a playground for anyone looking to fill a hole in their wardrobe with a vintage must-have and one I recently succumbed to in a bid to mitigate those pesky January blues. I picked up a staple pair of Black combat pants and a classic Sergio Tacchini tee, both of which have already been sported to the office as the week’s unravelled. Thankfully, my vintage cravings are suitably satisfied, although, the temptation of a Sunday afternoon return to ATIKA may not be something I manage to resist.

Listening: Celebrity Memoir Bookclub
A podcast-saturated society is what we are living in in 2023 and wading through the endless mediocre options can be gruelling. As such, only a very select few make it onto my regular audio rotation. However, the sound of New York comedians Claire Parker and Ashley Hamilton aka Celebrity Memoir Bookclub have become an essential component of my listening habits, with their witty, incisive discussion on all things celebrity memoirs now a given accompaniment to my wind-down evening routine. Everyone from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais, Love Island’s Molly-Mae and acting titan Will Smith have had their written works under the microscope of Parker and Hamilton and their opinions really do never miss.

WEARING: July Child
I love wearing fun jewellery to spice up an outfit. My July Child’s rings have become a go-to for nearly every outfit I wear. I am always scrolling through their New In pages to see their latest designs and I am never disappointed.

USING: Rose Inc Blushes
I feel like no one talks about Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s beauty brand Rose Inc enough. I bought one of her blushes based on a makeup artist’s recommendation and it is simply incredible. It gives such a nice natural glow to my skin which is essential to looking less like a corpse in the winter months.

VISITING: Saatchi Gallery
I recently went to the Saatchi Gallery for their latest exhibition, The New Black Vanguard which showcases some of the most amazing contemporary Black fashion photographers. The photography is incredible and ranged from high fashion to family portraits and it was so refreshing to see such young creatives being celebrated. A must see!

Scrolling: Lara Violetta
I’m always finding new cool girls to obsess over, and a mainstay in my obsessions has been Lara Violetta. Imparting her ultra-chic style through YouTube, as well as her impeccable Instagram feed, she delivers look upon look. Her YouTube videos chronicle her envious Parisian life, where she flits from exhibitions to fancy dinners in the most dreamy designer fits. An ensemble of hers I’ve been reeling over lately features crushed silver Tabi boots and a Margiela fluffy bag. I’m no criminal, but Lara Violetta is definitely on my rob list.

Consuming: Nymphet Alumni
The Nymphet Alumni podcast is a real one for the chronically online. But that’s exactly why I can’t help but pop on my headphones as soon as I see there’s a new episode out. Bringing together fashion and the internet – two of my favourite domains – the Nymphet Alumni girls unpack trends like ‘Blokette’ and ‘Russian Bimbocore’ through the lens of cultural criticism. I really enjoy thinking about all of these micro trends in a more academic way, but maybe that’s just because I want to put my Arts degree to good use.

Listening: The Cranberries – Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?
The Cranberries’ 1993 album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? was an instant classic upon its release, and this week I’ve been listening to it like there’s no tomorrow. The other day I came across a TikTok – which is my frame of reference for most things – that was exploring the vocal technique that lead singer Dolores O’Riordan uses. It’s called ‘keening’ – a vocal lament for the dead in the Gaelic Celtic tradition. I’ve always found tunes like “Linger” and “Sunday” to be searingly melancholic – and this piece of information opened my eyes as to why. Inject it!
