Following the Balenciaga scandal, you’d think Kylie Jenner would be wary of sartorial controversy. Alas, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

After hitting up the Schiaparelli show at Paris Fashion Week wearing a giant (fake) lion’s head on her shoulder, Jenner made a more concerning statement with her next look. On January 23, the makeup mogul was photographed wearing a body-hugging electric blue Givenchy dress with a pair of sparkling pink statement boots.

With uncharacteristically muted makeup and her hair slicked back into a low bun, Kylie Jenner let the clothes speak for themselves—and the message wasn’t great. Jenner topped off the look with a silver choker in the shape of a noose, which first sparked backlash when it was sent down the Givenchy runway in 2021 by the brand’s creative director Matthew M. Williams.

Per The Guardian, critics deemed the accessory “blatantly offensive.” At the time, reps for Givenchy made no apology, telling the publication, “The house [does] not have an official response on this.”

Just a few years prior to the necklace’s debut, Burberry came under fire for their 2019 ‘noose hoodie’ design, which led to an official apology from chief executive Marco Gobbetti, saying the brand was “deeply sorry for the distress.” Model Liz Kennedy, who walked in that year’s Burberry show but did not wear the hoodie, shared a lengthy statement on Instagram with the overall message, “Suicide is not fashion.”
