While the US was observing Martin Luther King Day, Margot Robbie returned to Australia for the Sydney premiere of ‘Babylon’ on Monday (January 16).

The actress who has been mixing things up when it comes to her choice of designers on the red carpet, wore a custom-made Atelier Versace gown.

Those fashion historians among you, will instantly recognise the inspiration behind this ice blue silk gown because Carla Bruni wore a similar dress to the Versace Spring 1995 Haute Couture show.

I say similar as both dresses are blue, have a thigh-high slit, feature a train, drape at the hip and features a signature Versace inverted heart-shaped neckline.

What Carla’s dress didn’t feature (aside from a less structured bodice) was the embroidered red lace detailing.

And that is where my inquiring mind asks why?

Margot Robbie Wore Atelier Versace To The 'Babylon' Sydney Premiere

Margot clearly loved wearing red in London last week to the premiere and the Q&A, so I would’ve preferred a red version, over a red lace trim.

The colour combination is a little jarring for me, this would’ve been served better had the lace been tonal.

Thoughts?
