Cate Blanchett continued her habit of re-wearing past looks at the BAFTA Awards last on February 19—this time, with a Maison Margiela dress that she first wore to the Oscars in 2015.
The Australian star, who picked up the best leading actress award for her powerful performance in Tár, wore a reworked version of the original black gown, with the frayed detailing on the sleeves and the hem being much more noticeable this time around.
When it came to accessories, Blanchett showed how a switch-up can instantly update a look. The actor originally paired the gown with a statement turquoise necklace by Tiffany & Co., but opted for a necklace by Louis Vuitton for its latest outing. Continuing the sustainable theme, it featured repurposed Tahitian pearls and a tourmaline that was reused from a previous design.

The Tár actor has repeated a number of looks of late, including an Alexander McQueen suit featuring dramatic cobalt-blue sleeves at the London Critics’ Circle film awards earlier this month. While many of us mere mortals re-wear looks all the time, on the red carpet, it can send a powerful message on the importance of sustainability. As Blanchett’s stylist Elizabeth Stewart previously explained, “On the red carpet, fashion is about being exciting, making a splash, and pushing our industry forward, so the bar is high.”
Eco-minded fashion isn’t the only thing Cate Blanchett was championing on the red carpet last night. The star, along with the likes of Paul Mescal, Michelle Yeoh, and Angela Bassett, wore blue #WithRefugees ribbons in solidarity with displaced people all over the world.
