Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen in 2019

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who split from Tom Brady after 13 years of marriage late last year, discussed post-divorce life and the dissolution of their relationship in a Vanity Fair interview published on Wednesday, March 22. Bündchen told the magazine that she is mourning “the death of my dream.”

“It’s tough because you imagine your life was going to be a certain way, and you did everything you could, you know?” Bündchen said. “You give everything you got to achieve your dream. You give a hundred percent of yourself, and it’s heartbreaking when it doesn’t end up the way you hoped for, and worked for, but you can only do your part.”

Bündchen said that the end of her marriage with Brady was gradual and started before he announced his retirement (for the first time) and subsequent unretirement in 2022. “Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart,” she said. “As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person. It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance.”

Gisele Bündchen’s comments in the VF interview reflect what she shared on Instagram last year after news of the divorce went public.

“With much gratitude for our time together, Tom and I have amicably finalized our divorce,” Bündchen wrote on her Instagram Stories in October 2022. “My priority has always been and will continue to be our children whom I love with all my heart. The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”
