Once a staple in 19th century workwear, jeans have slowly but surely crept into everyone’s wardrobes as a ready-to-wear essential. Inspired by the garment’s cultural longevity and intricate composition, Dries Van Noten just released a capsule collection of denim for both men and women featuring their bleach dipping process. Available exclusively on driesvannoten.com, ssense.com, and in Dries Van Noten stores, this capsule collection was designed for the thoughtful dresser.

Dries Van Noten first adopted the bleach dipping technique for its Spring Summer 2011 Womenswear show as an homage to Belgian painter Jef Verheyen’s work. Inspired by the late artist’s use of color, the collection featured dramatic color changes from saturated hues to light tones on the same fabric.

Today, the artisanal dying technique has evolved to give the new collection a timelessly edgy aesthetic. Achieved through the intricate process of bleach dipping- which involves submerging the garments in a bleach solution- Dries Van Noten creates an ombre effect throughout the capsule. Deep indigo, cerulean blues, and bright whites permeate the range of shorts, shirts, skirts, outerwear, and of course jeans.

Photographed by Sarah Piantadosi and styled by Léopold Duchemin, the campaign is equally as atmospheric as the garments. Utilizing light to mimic the hues in the clothing, the Dries Van Noten Spring-Summer 2023 denim collection and campaign are the perfect merriment of light and dark.
