Ivanka Trump

Following Donald Trump’s indictment, Ivanka Trump took to Instagram Stories to offer her condolences.

On March 31, the former White House senior advisor shared a relatively tepid response to her father’s impending arrest for his alleged connection to “hush agreement” payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. “I love my father, and I love my country. Today, I am pained for both,” Ivanka wrote. “I appreciate the voices across the political spectrum expressing support and concern.”

The New York Times described Ivanka’s statement as “comparatively muted” to her brothers’ responses. Donald Trump Jr. described the indictment as “communist-level shit” that would make historical dictators “blush.” Meanwhile, Eric Trump called it “third world prosecutorial misconduct” and an “opportunistic targeting of a political opponent in a campaign year.”

Ivanka Trump appears to be distancing herself from her father as she enters her rebrand era. “Even though Ivanka loves her dad, she knows how impossible he can be,” a source recently told People, noting that the 41-year-old “is recreating her business life and raising her children which are her priorities. She is through with politics.” Interesting.

In a 2020 Glamour op-ed titled “When Ivanka Trump Tries to Rebrand, Don’t Forget She Sold You Out,” writer Jenny Singer warned against letting Ivanka simply fade into the background. “Trump is an heiress who got a top job through nepotism and ran an apparel business that closed, though not before producing its clothes at a factory that violated Chinese labor laws,” Singer wrote. “She was an officer of a Trump foundation that admitted to using money intended for charity—including money raised at a fundraiser for veterans—for the Trump campaign and for Donald Trump’s businesses. She’s not our relatable mom-friend—with her husband, she has an income over $100 million a year. But when she steps off of Air Force One with a perfect blowout, husband, and adorable children in tow, we might want what she has, even though we don’t want to think about how she got it.”
