Melania and Donald Trump

While former president Donald Trump is dealing with the first of possibly several criminal indictments, former first lady Melania Trump has been conspicuously absent from public view. If the latest reporting is to be believed, the Trumps are very much not on the same page PR-strategy-wise. Simultaneous accounts published in Page Six and People suggest that Donald has been pleading with his wife to make a public show of support on the campaign trail. Meanwhile, sources speaking for Melania say the former FLOTUS just wants to be left alone.

According to the anonymous sources quoted by People on April 10, “Melania is not now or hasn’t recently taken part in her husband’s political events. It is not comfortable for her.” The insider added, “Melania can be aloof and not particularly friendly because she simply wants to be left alone.” But this doesn’t exactly align with what insiders told Page Six in an article published that same day. “He told her, ‘I really need you for this because we are going to be campaigning,’” the source claimed. “They had a major talk over the weekend, and she has … agreed to be on board.”

If Melania truly has agreed to become a visible part of her husband’s 2024 presidential campaign, we’ve yet to see it. The closest thing to a public statement Melania has made since her husband’s arrest was a “Happy Easter!” tweet. She also must have agreed to be seen having Easter brunch with Donald, where they reportedly ate behind a velvet rope.

It’s hard to separate what’s fact from fiction here, but whatever conversations Melania and Donald Trump have had personally, it sure doesn’t seem like their respective publicists are on speaking terms.
