On Wednesday (May 10), Beyonce kicked off her Renaissance world tour in Stockholm, Sweden, and as we expected, the tour outfits came in quick succession.
Opening with ‘Dangerously In Love,’ the singer’s first look was a custom Alexander McQueen catsuit embellished with silver bugle bead and crystal anatomical embroidery inspired by the Fall 2023 collection.
This was a strong start. 9.5/10.
The one thing you could’ve bet your house on when it came to Beyonce’s tour looks, is that she will wear a bodysuit…and plenty of them.
The first was a custom mirrored look inspired by the Courrèges Fall 2023 collection which matched her dancers.
I can’t say I’m a fan of the illusion yoke, or the random single black fingerless glove or the white over-the-knee boots.
Considering this was worn for the ‘Alien Superstar’ performance, the futuristic vibes made sense, yet this was my least favourite look on the night, so I’ll give this a 2/10.
Performing ‘Cuff It,’ ‘Energy,’ and ‘Break My Soul’ the singer changed into a David Koma Spring 2023 look.
We’re so used to David Koma’s embellished LBD, so I enjoyed seeing this statement-making psychedelic abstract print finally.
Named ‘Mother Of Pearl,’ the multi-colour design is meant to resemble the light reflecting on the natural shell material.
The boots are to die for.
This was a 10/10 for me.
Beyonce’s fourth look of the night was one of two custom creations by Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson.
The Swarovski crystals embellished bodysuit, matching crystal-embellished cargo trousers and 3D-printed bra in silver chrome finish blends futuristic concepts with theatrical and disco-era aesthetics.
I love how this look lit up the stage during her performance of ‘Formation,’ ‘Diva,’ and ‘Run the World (Girls)’.
For the stage presence alone, I’ll give this an 8/10.
Next up was a white bell-sleeved gown the Anrealage Fall 2023 collection.
Much like the designers Fall 2023 show, Beyonce single hued dress became multi-coloured thanks to a UV light, which opened to reveal her next look.
9/10 for the visual effects.
We of course had to have a Balmain moment.
Olivier Rousteing created a custom Balmain pearl accented bodysuit inspire by the Fall 2023 collection, for her ‘Church Girl,’ ‘Get Me Bodied,’ ‘Before I Let Go,’ ‘Rather Die Young,’ ‘Love on Top,’ and ‘Crazy in Love.’
This was a solid 9/10.
For Beyonce’s performance of ‘Plastic Off the Sofa’ the gloves made sense with this Loewe embellished bodysuit accented with trompe l’oeil hands motif, which was inspired by the Fall 2022 collection.
The gloves added yet more sensuality to the look.
This was by far my favourite look of the night.
10/10.
Singing ‘America Has a Problem’ the Queen Bey turned into a bee wearing a custom Mugler by Casey Cadwallader black and yellow chrome degradé bustier with matching leggings, boots and chrome bee casque which was inspired by a Thierry Mugler Spring 1997 ‘les insectes’ Haute Couture collection.
This was an intriguing look. I’ll give it an 7/10.
I’m lost on the order now, so I’m now adding them as I see them.
This next look sees Beyonce wearing a custom Mugler by Casey Cadwallader Robot suit inspired by the Thierry Mugler Fall 1995 collection which might be giving you a case of déjà vu.
That’s because the singer opted for a she-robot costume for the 2007 BET Awards which was also a Thierry Mugler creation.
This was a level up from 2007, so this look was a 9/10 for me.
Before landing on her disco horse, the singer floated from the heavens wearing a custom Coperni dress and elaborate cape inspired by the Fall 2023 collection.
Visually, I was in awe. This was another 9/10.
How do you rate these looks? Which was your favourite?
I love how they nailed the ‘80s disco era of the album, and looking at the videos online, she really gave her fans a show.
