Usually, I would put Gigi Hadid in the roundup with the models, but I had a lot more to say about the model who attended the ‘Firebrand’ Cannes Film Festival on Sunday.
If you’ve been here for a while, you’ll know that I have always been obsessed with Zac Posen’s designs for over a decade.
He is a master craftsman, and his work has always been focused on shape and silhouette.
When it came to New York Fashion Week, Zac Posen was THE designer I made sure that I requested, because it was an honour to see his work up close.
So, to see this Zac Posen design on Gigi Hadid was a disappointment.
Neither the fabric, nor the structure held up.
Could it have been saved?
Potentially, as I feel the main issue is that the dress is too long for Gigi.
Had the dress stopped just before it hit the ground, you wouldn’t get all those indents.
But we must consider that the fabric is too soft to uphold the design.
An interesting comparison is Priyanka Chopra’s Nina Ricci gown for the ‘Love Again’ premiere, where Harris Reed used denim to hold the structure.
Matching Jimmy Cass pumps and Messika High Jewelry Roaring Diamonds necklace completed her look.
Does no one take the time to consider these things anymore? Why does it feel that these looks are always rushed?
I’ll be really interested to hear your thoughts on this one?
