Halle Bailey wants to be where her sister is.

Just like her onscreen counterpart, Ariel, the Little Mermaid star is venturing away from home for the very first time. In her Glamour cover interview, the 23-year-old singer and actor shares that she moved into her first solo apartment after returning to Los Angeles from London, where she’d been filming the Disney live-action remake. Her family moved from Georgia to California 2012, and Halle recently took an important step toward independence by moving into a place of her own…in the same building as her 24-year-old sister, Chlöe Bailey.

“It’s nice because we’re neighbors and she’s always there when I need her, but we have our own space,” Halle tells Glamour. The Little Mermaid star describes her space as “wacky,” filled with whosits and whatsits like floor pillows, fake plants, and mirrors. “I have a problem with online shopping,” she tells writer Leah Faye Cooper. Though she’s indulged in an impulse Amazon purchase here and there, Halle favors purchasing items from young Black designers like Faë Sapienta and Kwame Adusei.

Of course, Halle Bailey is not completely alone in her new apartment. She shares the space with her cat, a 21st birthday present from her siblings. Aside from Chlöe, Halle has an older sister, Ski, and a younger brother, Branson. The cat’s name? Poseidon.

The Little Mermaid hits theaters on May 26. You can read the rest of Halle Bailey’s Glamour cover story here.
