Princess Charlotte Shows Off a Toothy Grin in New Birthday Portrait

Between the Met Gala and preparations for King Charles III’s official coronation ceremony on Saturday, we’d forgive you for forgetting that Princess Charlotte, third in the line of succession to the British throne, turns eight years old today.

As is tradition, Kensington Palace released a special birthday portrait of the princess, photographed by Charlotte’s mum, Kate Middleton. The official Twitter account of the Prince and Princess of Wales shared the photo on Monday evening, May 1, while the rest of us were patiently waiting for Rihanna to finally arrive on the Met Gala carpet. In the photo, the princess wears a toothy grin, showing off her incoming adult teeth, and a white dress made of a Swiss dot fabric and embroidered with tiny flowers. As has been well-established at this point, Charlotte is the spitting image of her dad, Prince William.

Though it is, of course, Charlotte’s special day, much has been made about the birthday of her younger cousin, Prince Archie, mostly because his fourth birthday happens to fall on coronation day (May 6). Archie’s dad, Prince Harry, will reportedly be flying back and forth across the globe in order to attend both celebrations. According to new reports, Harry will depart the coronation as soon as it concludes and hop on a commercial flight back to California, where he’ll join his wife, Meghan Markle, as well as Archie and his younger daughter, Lilibet, for the conclusion of Archie’s big day.

Though his stop in London will be brief, I hope he remembers a birthday gift for Charlotte. He probably won’t be winning any Son of the Year awards from his dad anytime soon (see: The Drama), but he’s still in the running for Uncle of the Year. We’re pulling for you, Harry!
