US actor Tom Hanks and US actress Rita Wilson speak with a staff member as they arrive for the screening of the film...

A photo is worth a thousand words, but this particular photo of Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks at the Cannes Film Festival could use just a few more. For clarity.

While walking the red carpet at the premiere of Wes Anderson’s latest film, Asteroid City, Wilson and Hanks were photographed in the midst of what appeared to be a heated conversation with an unknown man in a tuxedo.

With his pointer finger raised (though, notably, not directed toward the man) and his brow furrowed, Hanks appeared quite angry in the pic. Wilson, for her part, also had her pointer finger raised, while the anonymous man appeared to be gesticulating rather ambiguously.

The tabloids, being the tabloids, were quick to sensationalize the photographs, with Page Six writing the headline, “Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson seemingly scold man at ‘Asteroid City’ Cannes premiere.” The Daily Mail wrote, “Raving Private Ryan! Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson remonstrate with a red carpet staffer as they attend the 76th Cannes Film Festival premiere of Asteroid City.”

But Wilson has spoken in the form of an Instagram Story. And the real story? It’s not a story. It was simply so loud on the red carpet that they had to yell to communicate effectively, and that’s just what Hanks’s face looks like when he’s yelling.

On her Stories, Wilson posted a screenshot of an article in The Daily Mail. On top of it, in white text on a red background, she wrote, “This is called I can’t hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go? But that doesn’t sell stories! Nice try. We had a great time! Go see Asteroid City.”
