Here is a rundown of the looks from the 2023 BET Awards which took place at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (June 25) in Los Angeles, California.
I was delighted to see Akira Akbar dress like a 16-year-old wearing this pretty white Rodarte Pre-Fall 2023 ruffled and embellished dress which was delightfully whimsical.
Paris Texas silver Lidia sandals completed her look.
I have seen this LaQuan Smith cut-out dress from the Spring 2023 collection worn before, but I deliberately ignored it, so I was disappointed to see that Coco Jones opted to wear it for this event.
The problem I have with this dress is that it’s not at all flattering if you’re not super tall.
In Coco’s case, her torso isn’t long enough. Had she worn this dress as it was intended she would’ve had to hem the length, and the cut-out was likely to have sat on her bikini line.
As presented, this is a sloppy outing.
Demi Singleton served up her usual style, and elegance wearing a cute, age-appropriate Miu Miu Fall 2023 mini dress.
This is the one time you will not find me complaining about tights in June.
There wasn’t a lot to like on this red carpet, but I did love Flo Milli’s Ferragamo degrade mini dress from the Spring 2023 collection, as the colours were reminiscent of a beautiful sunset.
Gianvito Rossi Bijoux sandals completed her look.
Ice Spice wore a Dolce & Gabbana sheer lace corset dress from the Fall 2023 collection, which was very on brand for her.
Jorja Douglas (who originally wore Coco Jones’ LaQuan Smith cut-out dress), Stella Quaresma, and Renée Downer of the group Flo all opted to wear pink dresses designed by Patrycja Pagas.
As someone who do loves a girl group co-ordinated look, I did find myself liking this look.
Without the jewelled accents, I would’ve loved GloRilla’s David Koma Pre-Fall 2023 look more.
JT of the City Girls wore the same Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2022 Haute Couture look we saw Milena Smit wear to the 2022 GQ Men Of The Year Awards.
Unfortunately, JT couldn’t sell the look to me.
The rapper should’ve opted out of wearing the bolero, as it complicated her look.
Leigh-Anne Pinnock, who goes by the name Leigh-Anne as she embarks on a solo career, almost sold the illusion part of this Georges Hobeika Spring 2023 Couture dress to me, until I spotted the side zipper and the wrinkles.
Despite those two minor issues, I love how fun this look was right up to the sculptural hair style.
Piferi Tiana Plexi Crystals sandals completed her look.
Muni Long rocked an embellished two piece from Elisabetta Franchi which featured the on-trend sarong-style skirt.
