What Are Utah Curls? - Bangstyle

Move over “beachy waves” TikTok has unveiled a new name for you. The latest trend being virally created and talked about on TikTok is the Utah Curls hair trend.

Utah Curls Explained

How Are Utah Curls Different than Beachy Waves?

While many uses can’t distinguish what makes these different from beachy waves, the only difference we can see is making sure there is plenty of straight hair on the ends. Depending on the length of your hair you might get a few bends or many of them before leaving the ends out with a long straight look.

  • This look is best created on hair that has been smoothed. You can do this by air drying or blow-drying and it can be created on second- or even third-day hair.
  • Prep hair with a thermal protection spray.
  • Start at the nape and section the hair the width of your curling iron.
  • Curl the hair around the curling iron and as you unravel the curl from the iron, twist it as you move down so that the hair is being curled and then twisted.
  • Repeat this all over the head moving in alternating directions (and always away from the face around the face frame). When you reach the ends (about 2-3 inches) use a slight sliding motion to make sure the end of the section comes out straight.
  • Then use a wide-toothed comb to separate the curls and spray a light-hold hairspray or texturizing spray to finish.
