1
The ‘Trench Coat’ Trend

Casual faux leather trench latest fashion trends 2022Casual faux leather trench latest fashion trends 2022
The “Casual Trench” look – The VOU

Not a fashion season has passed without the trench appearing, and the most recent fashion shows were no exception.

With a perennially stylish military cut, the super practical trench coat has been a fashion staple since the First World War.

Also, the casual trench is perfect for drizzly days, thanks to the Gabardine fabric.

The coat of choice for iconic women for decades, the casual trench is brought back to life by Meghan Markle’s recent royal visits.

Great with a cashmere roll neck and Prada tractor-tread boots to create that stylish yet military-inspired outerwear look.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“If you’re looking for something different, grab a Nanushka faux leather trench and wear it over a floral dress or a ribbed wool turtleneck with matching heels.”

AS SEEN AT:

Burberry, Nanushka, Valentino, Sportmax, Brunello Cucinelli, Dolce & Gabbana, Magda Butrym, Palmer//Harding

2
The ‘Biker Jacket’ Look

Current fashion trends classic bomber and biker leather jacketCurrent fashion trends classic bomber and biker leather jacket
Leather jackets coming back into fashion in 2023 – The VOU

Not a fashion season passes without a leather jacket for women wearing an appearance, and this year is no exception to the rule.

A perennial of the most popular fashion trends, the leather jacket sports several variations, reiterations, cuts, styles, and trends.

Yet, after a half-decade of cruelty-free and vegan leather jackets – in various colors and styles, from plus size clothing to workwear – in 2023, we see a return to classic, clean-cut bomber and biker leather jacket styles.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“A winner of the 80s fashion styles, the leather jacket is a must-have outfit for smart casual dress code, officewear, streetwear, or even dinner dates. Last year we saw a failed attempt at launching the oversized leather jacket trend, a coup crashed by high-end designer brands returning in 2023 to clean-cut bomber leather jackets and classic style biker jackets.”

AS SEEN AT:

Dolce & Gabbana, Ermenegildo Zegna, The Jacket Maker, Diesel, Brunello Cucinelli, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Acne Studios, Dunhill, Dsquared2

3
The ‘Floral’ Trend

Fantasy Floral current fashion trends 2022Fantasy Floral current fashion trends 2022
Bohemian floral dress trending in 2023 – The VOU

Almost synonymous with spring, flowers have long represented renewal, beauty, and the feminine side of nature.

The association between floral motifs and natural femininity can be traced through fashion’s last hundred years.

As the role of women in society (equality, empowerment) changes, so does the general concept of feminine symbols such as flowers in clothing.

Led by stores like Princess Polly and similar women’s clothing stores, 2023 is the year of Boho fashion style.

However, the current looks can be described as ‘adding petals to the metal’ as designers and stylists are no longer interested in rose prints.

Instead, florals are taking over Goth clothing brands and other digitally born aesthetic clothing trends like cottagecore, darker academia, light academia, and e-girl styles.

Editor’s Tip: While hard to come by, metal-boho is necessary to stay relevant.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Avoid wilting roses and choose twisted fantasy florals. Blend sunny yellows and fresh greens with raging hues of red and gothic black.”

AS SEEN AT:

Marie France Van Damme, Valentino, Aspinal of London, Etro, Bernadette, PDN London, Peony

4
The ‘Sweet Pastels’ Trend

Latest Pastel fashion trends 2022Latest Pastel fashion trends 2022
Pastel outfits are trending in 2023 – The VOU.

Subvert the saccharine; pastels are a perennial spring favorite, but this year’s styles balance delicate with daring.

Frothy ruffles and sheer tulle add romance to short lengths, making longer styles more risqué.

In times when everyone wears loungewear with wolf-cut hairstyles, sherbet lemon chiffon is a radical statement.

Very popular in the past on pajamas and loungewear, contemporary pastel looks will elevate your 1990s Barbie girl to a controversial fashion powerhouse that crushes everything on its way.

Yes, matching sets and sweatsuits can still be worn around the house, but the style works best for unconventional social settings.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Amp up this look with a chunky pair of white boots, a blazer or a long jacket, layered necklaces, or a peek-a-boo turtleneck.”

AS SEEN AT:

Stella McCartney, Sophia Webster, WESTERNAFFAIR, Jenny Packham, Olivia Rubin, Prada.

5
The ‘Tractor Trek-Soles’ Trend

Tractor trek-sole boots fashion trendsTractor trek-sole boots fashion trends
Tractor Trek-Sole Boots – The VOU

Following a massive surge in popularity in early 2023, every designer and retailer from Balenciaga to Zara takes cues from the humble tractor boot.

Characterized by an almost comically rounded toe and a thick, rugged sole, the tractor-style boot is among this year’s most wanted fashion trends.

Daggy dad runners or chunky street kicks are the modern interpretation of the platform sneaker look.

With all the chunk and less of the sporty cheek, the look has owned both runways and street style for the past two years.

Think Doc Martens on steroids, the aesthetic opposite of the stretch neoprene flats and kitten heels seen on Miuccia Prada’s eponymous SS22 catwalk past September.

My fav is Balenciaga’s reinterpretation of Chelsea’s classic and elegant silhouette but with a chunky grooved-rubbed trek sole.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Pair your tractor boots with slouchy sweatpants or leggings to achieve a utilitarian or slant-to-laid-back look.”

AS SEEN AT:

Jil Sander, Rick Owens, Proenza Schouler, Salvatore Ferragamo, Premiata, Acne Studios, Le Silla

6
The ‘Chunky Loafer’ Look

Chunky loafers fashion trends of 2022Chunky loafers fashion trends of 2022
Chunky Loafers – The VOU

Too early for boots, cold for fancy shoes, and not in the mood for high heels? I’ve got you covered with chunky loafers.

With an overall classic look, these shoes stand out from the mainstream.

Sneakers and boots were the most popular flat style over the past few years, with loafers, ballet styles, and babydoll shoes.

However, the current fashion trend puts chunky loafers at the top of the flat style.

In particular, when paired with longer-length socks for a ‘Schoolcore’ aesthetic.

Check out Prada’s chunky loafers, leading a grunge aesthetic trend that’s only growing now.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Match your patent leather loafers with a crocodile-effect vegan leather bag to create another dimension of a modern rock’n’roll star.”

AS SEEN AT:

Givenchy, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Stuart Weitzman, Gianvito Rossi

7
The ‘Maxies’ Trend

Maxies fashion trends for 2021Maxies fashion trends for 2021
Maxie dresses and skirts for a trendy bohemian look – The VOU

The maxi dress style has always been one of the most versatile things a woman wears.

Are they headed out on a summer night? – Throw it on with sandals and go.

Are you going to a wedding? – Dress it up with jewels and heels.

Maxi dress peaked in 2023 thanks to TikTok’s Cottagecore aesthetic trend.

Cottagecore is a new fashion trend led by boho brands like Free People or stores like Anthropologie and will continue to grow in 2023.

Dubbed by many as ‘blanket dresses’ – as they are great while chilling on the couch, the maxis of 2023 will be brighter and shinier.

More extensive and bolder is better, as clashing prints with wide tulle make everything seem sunnier.

Some of our favorite influencer and celebrity outfits utilize the color-blocking trend; many shades pair perfectly together.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Sneak in that little extra pop, like a bold shoe or hat, to spice up the neutrals.”

AS SEEN AT:

Dolce and Gabbana, Ashish, Halpern, Molly Goddard, Tom Ford, Nina Ricci, and Valentino

8
The ‘Vests and Shests’ Trend

Vest fashion trends of 2021Vest fashion trends of 2021
Vests and Shests – The VOU

Vests have long held an essential sartorial role both for practical purposes and as part of suiting.

However, vests didn’t become a standard part of womenswear until the 1970s, when they entered the mainstream as casual work attire.

By the late 1990s, it became fashionable for women to wear vests as part of their everyday style, which became one of the popular trends of the 2000s fashion.

The rest is history, as vests have taken over the runway and the streets since then.

The iconic vest remains in style in 2023 – avoid the vest-centered ensemble as part of a three-piece suit.

Don’t own a vest? DIY an old sweater by cutting off the sleeves or layering a muscle tee over a long-sleeved shirt to create a similar look.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Try the contemporary fashion trend of ‘Shest’ – vest and a shirt together – for an extra stylistic boost.”

AS SEEN AT:

Brunello Cucinelli, Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain, Miu Miu, Jill Sander, Emilio Pucci, KNWLS

9
The ‘Oversized Shoulder’ Trend

Puffy shoulders current fashion trendsPuffy shoulders current fashion trends
Voluminous Sleeves and Shoulders of the 80s fashion coming back in 2023 – The VOU.

Unmissable sleeves – with their ruffles, puffs, and frills – are ballooning across the catwalk and the high street, and there’s no sign of the trend deflating.

Stuffed with social and logistical questions, oversized sleeves and shoulders shouldn’t be a viable trend – such as: is it possible to hug those you love while wearing a top that resembles giant armbands?

2023 saw an emergence of voluminous dresses, creating the perfect ‘one-and-done’ look (ideal for video calls).

And yet, the ‘Sleevification’ of fashion is in full swing, poised to take over in 2024 and rock the runways of fashion capitals.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Things can quickly go stylistically wrong with this fashion item, so match it with a high-waisted pant in a similar color palette.”

AS SEEN AT:

Eskandar, Loewe, Lanvin, Dvf Diane Von Furstenberg, Roksanda, Ganni

10
The ‘Sash Belt’ Trend

Sash belt latest fashion trendsSash belt latest fashion trends
Sash Belt-Dress – The VOU

Far from being purely utilitarian, belts can add that final sartorial touch and complete your look.

Adding a belt can be the equivalent of adding a period to the end of a sentence.

In the past, sash belts were created to be worn with bridal dresses, but in 2024, sash belts will be used beyond the bridal landscape.

Next year, sash belts will be a fashion-forward statement piece you can tie around your waist (like a sash) and look like a style goddess.

Go for a sash belt dress and wear it as advised below.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Wear the Sash as Obi, tied with a bow, as part of pants play combo, or as a bow at the back to create a cinched waist that makes you look good while walking away.”

AS SEEN AT:

Isabel Sanchis, RED(V), Sara Roka, Forte Forte, Jonathan Simkhai, Zimmermann, Elisabetta Franchi

11
The ‘Bralette’ Trend

Bralettes 2022 fashion trendBralettes 2022 fashion trend
Bralettes under oversized jackets are a trendy look in 2023 – The VOU

The main difference between a bra and a bralette is that bralettes are softer, more lightweight, and usually made without wiring.

As a result, bralettes give lighter support than regular bras.

In the past, this comfortable bra alternative was layered under baggy shirts for an extra print or pop of color.

However, the wire-free style comes this year in all colors, fabrics, and designs, so you can wear it as a top.

Moreover, you can now wear bralettes under blazers and cardigans, and you do not have to match them with your top layer.

The possibilities are endless: match it with a co-ord set, under a blazer, with denim Bermuda shorts, under a mesh top, a vacation shirt and high-waisted skirt, under a sheer ensemble, and so on.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“‘Brallets’ look stunning under a slip dress or a boiler suit with a plunging neckline, so try it.”

AS SEEN AT:

Karl Lagerfeld, Laneus, SIR., Emporio Armani, Alanui, Nuè, Seen Users

12
The ’90s Bucket Hat’ Look

Bucket hat fashion trends 2022Bucket hat fashion trends 2022
Bucket Hats – The VOU

The bucket hat is back, as searches have increased by 56% since last year (according to Lyst) and a 55% increase in searches on eBay.

While more recently spotted on Billie Eilish, Diplo, and shows of Bode, Kate Spade, and Anna Sui, bucket hats never faded.

This type of hat is the ideal lockdown wear, great for hiding a headful of curls untouched by the hand of a hairdresser.

It is also a hat that screams, “It’s summer!” while giving you a Madeline moment.

The shape – charming and silly – evokes a smile and a fizz of memories.

This seeming duality has given the hat longevity that somehow transcends trends.

So, it’s time to swap the baseball cap for a 2023 bucket hat and sport one of many current trends initiated by Rihanna and Bella Hadid.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Denim bucket hats look great with a killer trench coat layered over a matching denim trucker jacket.”

AS SEEN AT:

Craig Green, Loewe, Moncler, Kenzo, Missoni, Heron Preston, A-Cold-Wall

13
The ‘Dark Academia’ Trend

Matching sets fashion trends of 2021 and 2022Matching sets fashion trends of 2021 and 2022
Academia styles are still trending in 2023 – The VOU.

Academic-infused styles – including dark academia and light academia – got a massive boost in 2023 and are expected to remain relevant in 2024.

Driven by social media nostalgia for school and fashion, this fashion style emphasizes education, learning, reading, and writing, hence the ‘academic’ touch.

The style can be split into three substyles: dark, light, and grey academia.

While each academic substyle has its own characteristics, most of them draw aesthetics from Preppy and goth styles.

You can go with the dark academia style by choosing heavy knitwear in dark tones inspired by ancient Hogwarts-worthy libraries.

Or, light academia for a ‘lighter’ twist on its goth-leaning counterpart and create an aesthetic that carries an air of refreshing positivity.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“The most common Academia styles recourse to monochrome blazers, peek-a-boo turtlenecks, chunky boots, and layered necklaces. But which Academia style are you talking about?…”

AS SEEN AT:

Maison Margiela, Bottega Veneta, Mugler, Gucci, Johanna Ortiz, Lemaire, Versace, Kika Vargas

14
The ‘Goth Look’ Trend

Goth latest fashion trendsGoth latest fashion trends
Goth styles are back in fashion – The VOU

When considering alternative fashion styles, Goth style is always the first thing to mind.

In the early alternative subculture, gothic clothes are a cornerstone of the scene, with ‘the blackest of the black and the darkest of the dark’ at heart.

However, you do not have to be the ‘baddest witch in the coven’ or in love with the prince of darkness to wear hot goth apparel in 2023.

Moreover, you’re entitled to be decadent and sulky in your gothic slip dresses, bringing darker vibes to your daywear outfits.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Avoid Halloween comes early or distressed hems and focus on daring cut-outs and sexy fabrics (you are a hot goth, after all).”

AS SEEN AT:

La Perla, Alexander Mcqueen, Haculla, Comme Des Garçons, Jordan, Gucci

The ‘Y2K Look’ Trend

Candy-colored sweatpants trends 2021 and 2022Candy-colored sweatpants trends 2021 and 2022
Y2K fashion still trending in 2023 – The VOU

Y2K fashion brings back bubblegum pink everything: Metallic jackets, wide-leg denim trousers, bedazzled logos, teeny-tiny bags, denim on denim, and lots of Juicy Couture.

Somehow related to couch clothing (pastel sweatpants and hoodies everywhere), Y2K fashion (particularly 2000s Emo outfits) has made a big comeback in 2023 and will continue in 2024.

Blame it on the idea that once we felt comfortable going outside again, our commitment to comfort didn’t waver.

For example, Y2K sweatpants are reaching a jeans-like status, as almost anything can go with a pair of simple sweats.

The secret to pulling off a Y2K style is not to look frumpy or too formal.

Go for candy-colored sweatpants – the fastest and cheapest way to make you look (and feel) like a fashion icon.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“There’s never been a better time to wear candy-colored sweatpants, metallic jackets, and denim on denim.”

AS SEEN AT:

Simone Rocha, Giambattista Valli, Olivie Theyskens, Balenciaga, Noi Kei Ninomiya, Loewe, Paco Rabanne and Marine Serre

The ‘Mesh Shirt’ Trend

Mesh Shirts – The VOU

Mesh tops took the fashion world by storm in 2023, and the trend will continue in 2024.

Known as the ‘second-skin’ trend, this style grazes on your body so that it might as well be a second layer of skin.

While that may not sound particularly appealing, the number of celebrities rocking mesh shirts – think Marine Serre’s moon-print stretch-jersey top – such as Beyoncé, Adele, Kylie Jenner, and Dua Lipa, is nothing short of stellar.

The fashion trend is a perfect wardrobe go-to, no matter the season, with many ways to fashion sheer blouses, shirts, and underlays.

You can quickly go with our fave mesh long-sleeve top & lace bra combo, but there are other ways to combine and wear sheer tops with your wardrobe faves creatively.

Whether you dress it up or down or layer it up for those chilly evenings, second-skin tops will be your best friend this spring.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Mesh shirts have a super edgy look when layered over a bralette and paired with an oversized leather jacket for a chilly summer night.”

White Knee-High Boots – The VOU

Swing it back to the ’60s fashion with the classic gogo dancers-inspired item of footwear – white knee-high boots.

Taking its inspiration from the Youth Revolution in the mid-century, this Nancy Sinatra-approved look is a chic way to elevate your outfit.

White knee-high boots are great for a particular reason – they easily match many looks in this or that style and can be worn everywhere, from work to parties.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Wear your boots with a sweater dress, a blazer dress, or a mini skirt to show them off.”

The ‘Wide-leg Denim’ Look

Wide Leg Pants – The VOU

For the last ten years, if you had asked a woman to wear pants that weren’t skin-tight, she would have rolled her eyes in disgust.

Last year we gave skinny jeans and leggings undivided attention, but 2023 has saved us from another year of uncomfortably tight jeans.

Leg-wide, baggy, or puddle type, oversized jeans have been rising for quite some time.

Yet, it wasn’t until this year when wide-leg trousers started popping up on the streets of New York, London, and Paris.

Editor’s Tip: Match your wide-leg pants with cropped tops, or you risk becoming lazy or disorganized.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Wide-leg pants are back in fashion with a vengeance. You can wear them slouchy, loose, extra-long, and even baggy if you balance them with a cropped or slim-fitting top.”

The ‘Shacket’ Trend

Shackets current fashion trends of 2022 Shackets current fashion trends of 2022
Shackets – The VOU

‘Shackets’ are by far one of my favorite winter outfits!

If you’re new to this trend or spotted it plastered all over your Instagram feed, you may wonder, ‘what is a shacket?’

A ‘shacket’ is pretty much what the name suggests – stylish outdoor clothing that crosses between a shirt and a jacket.

Yep, two of your favorite wardrobe pieces combined into one…how great is that?

Imagine a shirt likened to a jacket made of thicker fabrics, has pockets, and can be worn layered up or on its own as outerwear.

With different fabrics, finishes, and details, brushed plaid shackets are among the current fashion trends that can be worn anywhere.

They’re heavier than a flannel shirt but not as bulky as a full coat and perfect if you need to run out.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Shackets look great with most things you’re already wearing, from sweatpants to turtlenecks.”

The ‘Pink Suit’ Trend

Bubblegum Pink fashion trend 2022Bubblegum Pink fashion trend 2022
Cute bubblegum pink outfits are trending in 2023 – The VOU

The bubblegum pink trend was first spotted on the S/S 21 runways and has since entered the fashion must-have pieces.

In 2017, you couldn’t walk into a shop without seeing ‘millennial pink’ outfits everywhere.

It was the color to invest in, loved by style celebrities, sticking around until late last year from clothes to homeware.

However, the upcoming season was already signaling a new pink shade in town: bubblegum pink.

Imagine the Hubba Bubba gum wheel you used to get from the local corner shop, as that’s the hue you’re looking for.

Brighter than the soft, millennial color, it’s punchy, bold, and vibrant – precisely what your wardrobe calls for after what feels like a lifetime in loungewear through multiple lockdowns.

It’s a departure from the neutrals commanding our closets for the past few seasons, but I’m ready to welcome fun into my wardrobe.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Blend your bubblegum pieces with neutral colors, or you risk looking like a Barbie girl doll.”

21
The ‘Tiger Print’ Look

Tiger prints fashion trends of 2022Tiger prints fashion trends of 2022
Tiger Prints – The VOU

Consider tiger print an update on last year’s pervasive leopard print.

This year, tiger stripes are showing up on everything from cozy knit sweaters and boxy overcoats to prim blouses and dresses in case you need a break from your sweatshirts and elastic waists.

Once worn by our parents – and our grandparents before them – tiger print is more relevant than ever.

For reference, check out Balenciaga’s SS22 show leopard prints in masculine and oversized coats with poppin’ padded shoulders, yellow tights, and large earrings.

Also, Pearlcore, aka the modern version of ‘ropes and ropes of pearls,’ is going strong with this style.

This season, round pearls are taking a break from the limelight in favor of sculptural, almost architectural, statement pearls.

Oversized, off-round, Keshi and Baroque pearls are everywhere.

Opt for a layered look featuring a Baroque pearl strand and a pearl pendant for a cool, urban-chic alternative to the timeless classics.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Match tiger print with sustainable fashion denim combo, vegan artsy corset, or even a multi-colored eco-friendly gingham suit.”

The ‘Disco Ball’ Trend

Sequins Disco outfits are back into fashion in 2023 – The VOU

Whoever said disco was dead has never seen the disco ball fashion style.

The iconic disco ball symbolizing 70s fashion has left its mark on more than just movies and dance moves.

If you long for Studio 54 good old days, packed with the quirkiest breed of celebrities, you will love these disco ball fashion features.

A disco ball may not be very versatile, but it looks right at home on everything from shoes to swimsuits.

As the temperature climbs, so does the number of statement silvery styles for the 2023 season.

The category is mercury rising, with textures in the form of sequins and oversized metallic paillettes, as well as ‘touch me’ ruffles and lurex that shine even brighter when the sun’s out.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

Crochet Set Trends – The VOU

Pumped up by Harry Styles and his pop-culture phenomenon “Watermelon Sugar” video, the 70s fashion style crochet sets are a blowing fashion trend in 2023.

The clip features Styles and a group of revelers on the beach, eating fruits while clad in an extensive array of brightly colored crochets, vintage-printed swim, and resort wear.

Since the video launch, the popularity of crochet has continued to rise.

According to the fashion search engine Lyst, searches for crochet clothing have risen by 85% since the end of last year, particularly for crochet dresses and sets.

And thanks to Lucy Williams, Bettina Looney, and Chrissy Rutherford, crochet sets are the style of choice for beachside holidays and summer staycations.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Sported by Lucy Williams to Bettina Looney and Chrissy Rutherford, crochet sets have been the style of choice for 2023 beachside holidays and summer staycations. And, according to fashion critics, crochet sets are seeing a return and are expected to be the celebs’ favorite in the summer of 2024.”

Hoodies under blazers trending in 2023 – The VOU

The ever-so-cozy hoodie is one of the most popular styles rocking current fashion trends.

Wearing a blazer with a hoodie is no longer just another street-style cut but a mainstream look transcending generations.

Wearing a quarantine staple-piece hoodie under a blazer adds a stylistic layer to your overall look.

Look for a slim, tapered hoody — preferably a darker, solid hue without too much embroidery or graphics.

Pair it with a dark, solid blazer. Slacks or denim are up to you — either will work, depending on the occasion.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“The 2023 style of “hoodies under blazers” works wonders with oversized and boxy blazers. Yet, if you get a thinner hoodie, you can match it with more tailored blazers for a more polished and stylish look.”

Bomber jackets should always rest loosely on your hip – unless you’ve opted for a slightly cropped style.

The clingy cuffs shouldn’t go past or above your wrists, no matter the fit.

The cuffs should be tight, so try a smaller size if it hangs over your hand loosely.

In this case, the hues are almost always neutral, empowering the underneath attire for an effortlessly chic aesthetic.

Cropped Cardigans – The VOU

Popular in the 90s fashion, there’s nothing more trend-defining in contemporary fashion than the humble cropped cardigan.

A vintage-inspired trend kicked off by high brands like Alessandra Rich and LoveShackFancy, quickly copied by Zara and Forever 21, and other fast fashion brands.

Regardless, if putting together a cute outfit seems too much to handle, a skinny knit with a trending style of jeans is the perfect answer.

Styles range from basic button-ups to embroidered, embellished, or printed knits, so there’s something for everyone.

You can wear these shrunken knits with slip skirts and a leather jacket, especially if you need another layer of protection.

Of course, jeans and boots also complement a cropped cardigan.

However you style it, be it Fairy Grunge or e-Girl, ensure you’ll be comfortable all day long.

This one-and-done hero piece has cropped up everywhere this year, from the runway to your favorite affordable stores.

It’s easy and cool, and it takes the stress out of picking pants and a shirt – because we all have enough to think about right now.

Traditionally made from heavy canvas or denim, the one-zip wonder was one of many game-changing inventions from the Industrial Revolution.

With men’s overalls, comfort and practicality are high on the list.

Also, boiler suites are popular amongst extended sizes, offered by fantastic plus-size and petite clothing brands.

Beloved by celebrities such as Giambattista, the Hadid sisters, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, and Irina Shayk, this versatile all-in-one is your swiftest route to utility chic.

The ‘Puff Sleeve’ Trend

Puff sleeves with torn jeans are trendy in 2023 – The VOU

Most fashion trends begin as reinterpreted ways of dressing created by celebrities, social, sports, and political events, with the masses reviewing clothes and styles from the past as forms of protest.

However, some fashion trends have staying power, proving to be more than fleeting – and the puff-sleeve style is the perfect example.

The larger-than-life sleeve has been showcased in many variations: the balloon, the Juliet, the leg-of-mutton, and so on.

However, the puff sleeve trend cracked the fashion veneer in 2018, when the ’80s fashion looks raved the world’s runways.

Fast-forward to 2023; the supersized sleeves are more popular than ever.

With balloon sleeves on sweaters at Fendi, billowing sleeves attached to pleated shirtdresses at McQueen, perfectly puffed gowns at Rodarte, and double-breasted winter coats at JW Anderson.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

Revive your classic jackets and romantic ruffles by mixing punch-packing bubblegum pink colors with vivid greens.

Color clashing is a great way to revive your wardrobe and make a fashion statement at no cost.

It works by pairing contrasting colors, or colors you wouldn’t usually put together, to create bold focal points.

The secret to pulling it off is sticking to simple shapes.

Think classic shifts, maxis, and pencil skirts.

Also, choose shades that are the direct opposites on the color wheel.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Clash pink with yellow, orange with blue, or green with black to create some of the most (effective) visual effects.”

Laura Biagiotti, Tod’s, Molly Goddard, Hermes, Fendi, Stella McCartney, and Versace

The ‘Monochrome’ Trend

The “Monochrome Matrix” style – The VOU

The black-and-white color combo is a no-brainer.

Choose black and white when in doubt, as there’s no pairing as classic as a white button-down and black pants.

However, as the latest fashion trends of 2023 reveal, it does not mean that if it’s black and white, you can’t experiment.

Whether textural and layered, like Prada’s circle cut-out knits, or classic color-blocking at Louis Vuitton, there’s a monochromatic style trick for everyone – choose which one.

You can also get matching black-and-white ombre nails.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

“Layer a white shirt under a black mini dress, and combine it with monochrome scarves, belts, and other similar accessories.”

Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, Gabriela Hearst, Simone Rocha, Giambattista Valli, and Balenciaga

7 Sustainable Fashion Trends in 2023

Sustainable clothing has plaid and plays a massive role in fashion trends.

That is because, in creating new aesthetics, designers increasingly use sustainable and eco-friendly materials that people love to wear and brag about.

Here are the top 7 sustainable fashion trends you’ll have to consider if you want to maintain stylistic relevance.

1/7
Upcycled Fashion Trend

The upcycled clothing trend is transforming the fashion industry from manufacturing to design.

Upcycling refers to taking used products and turning them into valuable materials for – in this case, fashion purposes.

The product from such rescued materials has a second life, often priced as a brand-new (or even more valued) product.

Upcycling is always possible, even after wearing a garment for a long time, to the point of destruction.

On the one hand, this new design philosophy has inspired young fashion creators such as BODE and Tremblepierre to rethink the garments they create.

On the other hand, upcycled and recycled clothing has changed how fashion consumers view the clothes they buy and wear.

2/7
Cruelty-Free Fashion

Most people see cruelty-free and veganism as identical; however, this is not the case.

Despite what most vegans believe, some animal products can be produced in cruelty-free ways.

For example, ‘peace silk’ and ‘cruelty-free wool’ are products of animal origin obtained without harming animals.

That is unlike animal leather, where the animals are killed for their skins.

More than that, cruelty-free materials and products are often far more sustainable than their vegan counterparts.

Stella McCartney, Mara Hoffman, and even Allbirds are some of the most loved sustainable clothing brands, using cruelty-free materials in their collections.

And let’s not forget that cruelty-free materials are natural and, thus, do not require unique recycling plants.

3/7
Pre-Owned Garments

Collaborative consumption is, for sure, one of the most influential trends in sustainable fashion right now.

Over the past few years, vintage clothing shops have become the go-to destinations for young, conscious fashion lovers.

New generations of fashion buyers are increasingly interested in clothes that no one else can have.

They highly praise uniqueness and originality, and this approach expands even to once-in-a-lifetime events such as getting married.

Markets such as Kilts n Stuff, which emphasizes renting garments for occasions like weddings, are a great example of this fast-growing trend.

Moreover, thrift stores, second-hand shopping, and even renting are excellent alternative ways to help the planet while finding unique clothes.

4/7
Vegan Leather

Vegan leather is loved not only by vegans, as it does not require killing animals, but also by those who care about the planet.

One of the most popular vegan leather materials is Pinatex.

This plant-based leather-like material is made from discarded pineapple leaves.

The material is highly resistant, reliable, and fabulous for creating sustainable fashion trends.

Conscious fashion lovers prefer innovative vegan leather alternatives as they make them look and feel good, knowing that no animals were harmed in making their boots, bags, and jackets.

Also, these leather alternatives present significant benefits for the planet by slowing down intensive animal agriculture – a significant source of greenhouse gases.

5/7
Custom-Made (Slow Fashion Trend)

The slow fashion movement is growing popular as one of the most influential sustainable fashion trends.

As a result, custom-made clothing and artisanal fashion are returning as top alternatives to mass-produced fast fashion.

Research shows that customers are ten times more likely to hold onto a new jacket or dress if it is custom-made.

Instead of mass production, custom-made clothing saves raw materials and yields clothing of higher quality designed to last.

Moreover, today’s consumers have seemingly endless choices of ethical fashion trends.

Hence, customization is increasingly appealing.

The trend is helped by developing innovative technologies, such as 3d printing and virtual fashion, which signals a promising future for custom clothing.

Finally, to increase the lifespan of your clothes, you must keep them organized.

Luckily, many outfit generator apps are on the market to help you stay stylish, ethical, and organized.

6/7
Recycled Apparel (Plastics &Textiles)

The advent of using recycled textiles to create sustainable fashion garments and shoes has been driven, so far, by Adidas.

In one historic collaboration, the sportswear giant has partnered with Parley for the Oceans, a non-profit organization fighting to clean the planet’s oceans from plastic.

The duo collects plastic waste from the oceans and turns it into textiles and fabrics to make new Adidas shoes.

The trend of recycling textiles from plastics keeps the oceans clean and marine life thriving.

7/7
Lab-Made Materials

Although designers have used natural materials, such as organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo, for ages, recent material innovations have taken the industry to the next level.

One such innovative material is Celloluse, a coconut-based fabric requiring much less water and land to produce.

Similar sustainable materials – with a leather-like structure – are made from kombucha tea, mushrooms, and even kelp.

The realm of innovative materials, created at the intersection of biology and technology, is simultaneously very new and promising.

Finally, with the help of biology, we’ve started to create the perfect ‘vegan leather,’ not in the field – from plants, but in the lab, from cultured cells.

Vegan and biodegradable (because it is already cut and tanned to the size and color desired by the buyer), these new materials are fully circular and eco-friendly, reducing waste and saving the planet.
