Halle Bailey shimmered in a strapless sequin ballgown at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA) Art + Film Gala on Saturday, November 4. The Little Mermaid star pulled the chocolate brown look from Gucci’s glamorous new eveningwear collection designed under the purview of creative director Sabato De Sarno. Styled for the event by Nichole Goodman, Bailey accessorized the stunning dress with Graziela Gems earrings as well as a diamond necklace and rings from Effy Jewelry and Kallati Jewelry. It doesn’t look like Bailey walked the red carpet, but she shared her full look in a series of portraits posted to Instagram.
The warm brown color of Bailey’s dress brings to mind Kylie Jenner’s latest red carpet look: a strapless Ferragamo corset gown, which the fashion and beauty mogul wore to the Wall Street Journal‘s Innovator Awards last week. It could be a coincidence that two It girls are wearing the same color… or it could be the next big trend in evening wear. Watch this space.
Bailey’s appearance at the gala comes less than a week after putting trolls in their place on Twitter with a response to ongoing criticism of her relationship with rapper DDG. The backlash began in July after DDG seemingly shaded Bailey in his July single, “Famous.” That said, last month the two made it clear they’re still dating by dressing up in not one, but two couple’s costumes for Halloween: Janet Jackson and Tupac first, followed by Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown.
“I hope everyone has a safe and lovely halloween!!! i had so much fun dressing up as legends this yearrr,” Bailey subsequently wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on October 31. “get off twitter go dress up, touch grass and have fun outside !!!!”
